Enjoyable story, but requires large suspension of belief.
Revisado: 01-01-24
First I want to say that this was a fun story and I enjoyed listening to it. However, parts of the story seemed very contrived. It felt like the author started with the objective to put the children into a situation where they would be trying to survive on their own, and then shaped the rest of the story around that goal. The problem is that to do this, they had all the adults in the story make a series of really stupid decisions that resulted in them being separated from the kids. The kids had more common sense than the adults. I found that part very annoying. If you can ignore that aspect of the story, the rest is pretty good.
Also, the narrator was bad. Hopefully the next book gets a different reader.

The story is okay, but has some big annoying flaws
Revisado: 12-26-23
In general, I found the story to be just meh. However, there were a few issues that annoyed me enough that I eventually decided to stop reading. Warning: mild spoilers ahead.
My main complaint was that the male protagonist was poorly written. He was generally obnoxious, and reacted very badly several times to stressful situations. I kept asking myself why any woman would be romantically interested in him, much less our female protagonist. She deserved way better than him. It came to a head for me near the end of the book when he finally decided to confess his interest in her, but low and behold, who shows up just at the last minute...his ex-fiance from ten years ago. The dude then proceeds to have a complete meltdown. It was all just so contrived and juvenile. I couldn't keep reading. If the story had been more interesting up to that point, I probably could have kept going, but it just wasn't worth it.

Historia
Having barely escaped the Overcavern Forest with his life, Ben is ready for some peace and safety in the city of Solas. Unfortunately, he won't find it, not in that nightmare of a city. Especially not with the pristine body of Betsy the Purebeast safely sealed away in his Utility Pocket; a treasure so rare that it's garnered interest from all the wrong kinds of powerful people. With Vivi once again accused of the very same crimes he'd was exiled for, the power of Solas are determined to use this farce of a trial (by human standards) to rip Betsy from the teams still cooling fingers.

Historia
The colonists from the Pathfinder have arrived on Kaguya, a planet with low gravity but a very dense atmosphere. It’s fun to jump around, but the air makes you loopy - and worse than that, the heavy atmosphere means that wind storms, although rare, are absolutely devastating. Zero and Nyx help to get everything locked down before the first big storm, but they stumble onto a group of thieves who have stolen some mining equipment. Before the kids have a chance to get away and tell anyone, the storm hits and the massive winds carry them far away.

Enjoyable read, but hampered by bad character choices.
Revisado: 06-13-23
I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series so far, and this one the most. However, each book suffers from the same flaw that really reduces the quality of the story for me. They each have moments where the characters are in danger or peril, and you the reader can think of several obvious solutions to the problem. In each case, the characters will instead make a really stupid choice that makes the situation worse. I know the author is trying to build the drama and tension, but it’s frustrating as the reader to see otherwise intelligent characters doing something stupid. It’s like watching those dumb horror movies where a group is exploring a haunted house and they decide to split up for some reason. SO DUMB!!

The narrator was bad, and the story read like a history lesson.
Revisado: 06-02-23
I probably would have enjoyed the book a lot more if not for the narrator. He had a really….odd cadence where he would….pause at random times between….words. It was like listening to William Shatner read. He also mispronounced a lot of words.
The story itself was not that bad, but there was a lot of following the main character around while he researched the events and characters of a war that too place 200 years ago. It was a rather dry story at times.

A good story that most people should hear, but some parts were really hard to listen to.
Revisado: 05-30-23
It was a really good story about the human condition that I think will do you good to listen too. It will help build empathy and compassion towards others. That being said, there were several really difficult parts for me to listen to. The stories of cruelty, pain, and suffering almost made me stop several times.

Just like earlier books in the series, this one does a decent job revealing the joy and wonder that comes from exploring the mysteries of the universe. These books help me live my life-long dream of discovering new alien worlds and civilizations in space. I’ve never found any other books that do it quite like the Academy series.

Did not live up to the hype.
Revisado: 04-12-23
I kept hearing about how great this book was, but it ended up being a disappointment. It’s not a terrible story, but I probably got my expectations to high. The story was slow and boring, and none of the characters(except the detective) were interesting. It was also pretty depressing because it focused so much on the negative traits of humanity and gave no hope for improvement.
