Historia
Doesn’t it seem that the more we seek happiness, the more elusive it becomes? There is an easy fix: fun is an action you can take here and now, practically anywhere, anytime. Through research and science, we know fun is enormously beneficial to our physical and psychological well-being, yet fun’s absence from our modern lives is striking. Whether you’re a frustrated high-achiever trying to find a better work-life balance or someone who is seeking relief from life’s overwhelming challenges, it is time you gain access to the best medicine available.

Historia
For far too long, the history of how American women won the right to vote has been told as the tale of a few iconic leaders, all white and native-born. But Susan Ware uncovered a much broader and more diverse story waiting to be told. Why They Marched is a tribute to the many women who worked tirelessly in communities across the nation, out of the spotlight, protesting, petitioning, and insisting on their right to full citizenship.

Historia
Persuasion has certain similarities with Emma, another late novel by Jane Austen. In both stories, the heroine is a young woman who lives with her widowed father, and who has an enduring attachment to her eventual spouse from the opening of the action. Persuasion also incorporates certain elements common to Austen's earlier novels, such as characters from the military, visits to Bath and calculating and cynical suitors. In the end, Anne Elliot successfully combats the destructive vanity of her father and the machinations of her villainous cousin William.

Austen's usual--quandary of manners
Revisado: 12-18-18
I was very disappointed in the production level of the ensemble performance. Voices were recorded at an uneven volume. This drew the attention of the listener from the story to the production technicalities. Very distracting, making for a disappointing listening experience. AUDIBLE usually does better.

Historia
When I am grown to man’s estate. I shall be very proud and great. And tell the other girls and boys. Not to meddle with my toys. Thus reads the whimsical, “Looking Forward,” of this delightful collection. From the sweetness of “Land of Nod,” to the imaginative dreams of “Pirate Story” and “Travels,” Robert Louis Stevenson’s beloved poems celebrate childhood in all its simplicity and joy.

What did you like best about A Child's Garden of Verses? What did you like least?
The narrator makes this beautiful prose droll and boring. Who would've thought this possible?
What did you like best about this story?
Fabulous writing
What didn’t you like about Robin Field’s performance?
Droll, flat, boring.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
only without this narrator

Historia
Kemal, scion of one of the city's wealthiest families, is about to become engaged to Sibel, daughter of another prominent family, when he encounters Füsun, a beautiful shopgirl and a distant relation. Once the long-lost cousins violate the code of virginity, a rift begins to open between Kemal and the world of the Westernized Istanbul bourgeosie - a world, as he lovingly describes it, with opulent parties and clubs, society gossip, picnics, and mansions on the Bosphorus, infused with the melancholy of decay.

Pitty Party
Revisado: 02-12-17
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Trash this story and start over
Would you ever listen to anything by Orhan Pamuk and Maureen Freely (translator) again?
I would try this author again only to see if he could do any better than miserable.
What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
John Lee brings excellent pronunciations of Turkish words and names along with a natural Turkish but understandable to American ear accent.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
When I reached the end and the self-inflicted anguish resulting from selfish actions of the main character was over.

Walking

Historia
> Walking is not as well known as Thoreau's other works Walden, The Maine Woods, and Civil Disobedience. But it is a good place to start exploring his writing because it was his last book, in 1862, published by the Atlantic Monthly shortly after his death. It is less well known because it is general, as opposed to singular, in focus. It is his summing up of his thoughts on life: One should saunter through life and take notice; one need not go far.

Fire this narrator!
Revisado: 11-25-16
Would you try another book from Henry David Thoreau and/or Deaver Brown?
Thoreau--yes!, Deaver Brown -- never! Brown is the worst narrator due to poor pronunciation of words and poor phrasing. The worst ever.
What did you like best about this story?
Thoreau to classic. Find a real story teller to narrate this beautiful material.
What didn’t you like about Deaver Brown’s performance?
He has a "lazy mouth" in which words are incorrectly or incompletely pronounced. Poor phrasing breaks up thoughts which should be whole. He reads worse than a non-native English speaking person.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I would like to hear it again with a real story teller. The poor narration makes me feel that I missed or misunderstood many parts of the story.
Any additional comments?
Fire Deaver Brown!

Possibly. Would be more interested in other books by this author.

The Sympathizer told the story from many points of view--all convincingly.
What about Francois Chau’s performance did you like?
Showed the conflict between East and West.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Why they hate us.
Any additional comments?
Explained the conflict and confusion in governing after a revolution, much like HAMILTON does for the American revolution.
