On balance, I enjoyed the story.
Revisado: 06-23-20
Great premise and setting, but it feels more like a draft than a finished book. It needs to be edited for content to make the story tighter and more concise. That said, I did just buy the second book to listen to.
She has some great bones here and there were some gripping scenes. I just feel that she could have this edited for content and it would be so much better.

Riveting! Highly recommended.
Revisado: 03-31-20
This book is so good! I could not stop listening! It’s a story of young love mashed up with a dark and twisty murder mystery.
I loved the dream clues and symbolism, they added a dimension of anything-might-happen-next to the story. This definitely added to the tone of dread (and my chills!)
My heart was racing for the entire last half of the book. Smith’s writing style blends so well with the pacing, pushing the story forward like a freight train while still maintaining focus on the allegorical nature of the protagonist’s dreams. It was intense (in the best way)!
Becca C Smith is one to watch! I hope that Audible secures more of her books!

Late Victorian London. When James Miller, the most respectable of Scottish businessmen, is pulled, dead, from the Thames, his daughter is drawn into an investigation which reveals a whole world of secrets and corruption. Alongside local detective Culley, Catriona’s search for her father’s killer leads all the way to the tragic truth behind the ghostly legend of The Darkwater Bride and the power of her deadly kiss. The Darkwater Bride combines the genres of the Victorian mystery thriller with the equally classic Victorian mode of the ghostly tale.

Had such potential, but EW.
Revisado: 04-11-19
I was loving the start of this creepy story. Then the story just became way way too dark. It is fun to have a little scare, but the story becomes so bogged down in filth that it is no longer fun or entertaining. ***SPOILER ALERT*** It jumps the shark right about the time that the loving daughter is told by prostitutes that her father liked to pretend that they were her. EWWWWWWW. SICK. It was no longer a fun story at that point, so I turned it off. Nobody wants to read that.

Revisado: 10-01-13
Where does Doctor Sleep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is an excellent audiobook! I could not bring myself to stop listening.
What other book might you compare Doctor Sleep to and why?
Naturally, I would compare it to 'The Shining' because this is the sequel. I think that it was an excellent sequel.
Have you listened to any of Will Patton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Not that I am aware of.
If you could rename Doctor Sleep, what would you call it?
Good question, but I'm drawing a blank.
Any additional comments?
There were such high expectations for a sequel to a book as well known and loved as 'The Shining". I am so pleased that 'Doctor Sleep' exceeded them all for me.

They were the original power couple - outlandishly rich, impossibly attractive, and endlessly fascinating. Now, in this rare, behind-the-scenes portrait of the Kennedys in their final year together, New York Times best-selling biographer Christopher Andersen shows us a side of JFK and Jackie we’ve never seen before. Tender, intimate, complex, and, at times, explosive, theirs is a love story unlike any other - filled with secrets, scandals, and bombshells that could never be fully revealed…until now.

A fascinating perspective
Revisado: 08-07-13
What did you love best about These Few Precious Days?
I could stop listening to this book. It provided a unique and fascinating perspective on this legendary couple, but simultaneously humanized them in a way that I have not experienced in any other books on this topic. They are portrayed as two beautiful, intelligent, and flawed individuals navigating both personal and historical highs and lows. It was incredibly interesting, beautiful, and tragic - just like "September Song" the poignant song which gives the book its title.
What was one of the most memorable moments of These Few Precious Days?
Of course there were many memorable excerpts, but the part that spoke the most to me was how the tragic loss of their newborn, Patrick, brought them closer than ever in the months before the assassination.
What does Robertson Dean bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Robertson Dean was the perfect narrator for this book, in my opinion. It required his unque combination of sensitivity and gravitas.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It was all very moving.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book even though it was so heartbreaking.
