Historia
When Germany invaded Poland, bombers devastated Warsaw - and the city's zoo along with it. With most of their animals dead, zookeepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski began smuggling Jews into the empty cages. Another dozen "guests" hid inside the Zabinskis' villa, emerging after dark for dinner, socializing, and, during rare moments of calm, piano concerts.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-01-20
I had high expectations for this book and was quite disappointed. I rarely abandon a book but this was an exception. The writing was tedious at times and the narrator so annoying! I agree with another reviewer who mentioned list after list of things - which I think in the print version could be skipped over, and the narrator slipping into an accent for no apparent reason. Can't recommend this book.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Great story
Revisado: 01-06-17
What made the experience of listening to Hillbilly Elegy the most enjoyable?
I really enjoyed learning about this segment of society. Well written.
What didn’t you like about J. D. Vance’s performance?
Not a good narrator - rather lackluster. I wish the narration had been performed by a professional narrator vs. the author. I would recommend reading a hard copy or an ebook vs. the audible version.

Historia
Nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks, Miller's Kill, New York is about as safe as it gets. That's why Episcopal minister Clare Fergusson is shocked when the July Fourth weekend brings a rash of vicious assaults to the scenic town. Even Clare's good friend, police chief Russ Van Alstyne, is shaken by the brutality of the crimes - especially when it appears that the victims were chosen because they are gay.

Good book, disappointing narrator
Revisado: 07-03-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This is my second book by Julia Spencer-Fleming. I enjoyed the story, but found the narration to be really distracting, especially when the narrator voiced Russ, the chief of police. She made him sound like a cartoon character. Too bad, because the story was fun.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Suzanne Toren?
anyone else
Was A Fountain Filled With Blood worth the listening time?
The story was.
