Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Nice twists and turns
Revisado: 02-01-25
Enjoyable read! I really like that this book is not a slow start! You are able to jump right into the story and keep up easily enough. I'm interested to see what happens to the characters next. I don't feel completely obsessed as I've seen other readers be, but to each their own. Overall great book and I would recommend! Nice unexpected turns as well!

A story filled with intrigue, hidden identities, rebellion, attraction you wish you could deny, and unexpected betrayals.
Highlighting the importance of truly finding and accepting yourself; I enjoyed watching the FMC discover herself and step into her power. This is only book 1 of 4 as it's a completed series, but be warned there are cliffhangers! So prep and just get the next book as you near the end.

Historia
At the close of World War II, London is in ruins and Rose Daniel isn’t at peace. Eight years ago, her brother disappeared while fighting alongside Gypsy partisans in Spain. From his letters, Rose has just two clues to his whereabouts - his descriptions of the spectacular south slopes of the Sierra Nevada and his love for a woman who was carrying his child. In Spain, it has been eight years since Lola Aragon’s family was massacred. Eight years since she rescued a newborn girl from the arms of her dying mother and ran for her life.

Great story, ok narration
Revisado: 08-08-19
I really enjoyed this book. While the narrator was not bad I wish she had made some effort to distinguish between the two main female characters. She uses the same voice when either Lola or Rose are speaking, Rose is British and Lola is a gypsy it shouldn't have been hard to tell who was speaking and when, but many times her voice would revert back to a normal tone even though one of the characters was talking. Many times I had to rewind to figure out who was talking.

Enjoyable listen!
Revisado: 01-11-17
I typically do not listen to books like this, however I thoroughly enjoyed Butterfly Garden. You are able to grasp all the horrors that happened, without having to hear graphic accounts that some authors would have given. Having finished pillars of the earth not too long ago I can tell you that the way some authors delve into a rapists mind makes me wonder about their sleeping habits and if they get any. Nothing in Butterfly Garden is sugar coated but nothing over done either. The sick twisted mind of the gardener is revealed in layers and without making it an uncomfortable listen. You still The way that Dot has chosen to reveal the story allows you to really empathise with butterflies and the horrible things they went through without feeling like you have to shower after every account.

It's 1803, and an adolescent Nadya is determined not to follow in her overbearing Ukrainian mother's footsteps. She's a horsewoman, not a housewife. When Tsar Paul is assassinated in St. Petersburg and a reluctant and naive Alexander is crowned emperor, Nadya runs away from home and joins the Russian cavalry in the war against Napoleon. Disguised as a boy and riding her spirited stallion, Alcides, Nadya rises in the ranks, even as her father begs the tsar to find his daughter and send her home.

Narrator was great
Revisado: 12-22-16
For me the narrator made the book for me. While it is overall a very good book I almost gave up on it 2 or 3 times. However because I enjoyed the narrator so much I pushed through. If you do not have an interest in this time period and Russia I don't know that this book will be for you.

Narration was a snoozefest
Revisado: 03-22-16
Sigh this took forever to get through. I am an audio book lover the longer the better. But this narrator drove me insane. Her baselime voice is extremely monotone and basically boring. Itried to like this audio book but she just ruined it for me. It took me 3 months to get through this book when I have finished others that were 18 hours and up in just 2 days.
The book itself is good, characters are well done, good descriptions but this narration is so beyond boring I don't even know how to describe it.

Historia
As war moves ever closer, the sleepy English village of Crowmarsh Priors settles into a new sort of normal: Evacuees from London are billeted in local homes. The nightly German air raids become grimly mundane. Rationing curtails every comfort. Men leave to fight and die. And five women forge a bond of friendship that will change their lives forever in this engrossing novel of loyalty, loss, and love in the shadow of World War II.With the hardships of war intensifying every day, the women band together to defeat formidable enemies and find remarkable strength within themselves to help one another. It is a war-forged loyalty certain to endure years and distance. When four of the women return for a celebration fifty years later, their mission is not simply to commemorate or remember. They’ve returned to confront a traitor whose actions cost countless lives — and to avenge one of their own at last.

Captivating representation
Revisado: 03-02-16
After keeping this book in my tbr list for the past 3 months I finally started it.
While some have complained about the narrator overdoing it with the southern accents these did not irritate me. For the location, as well as the time frame, the southern drawl that she did was fairly accurate in my opinion. Being a southerner myself I wonder if those complainers have spent anytime in the deep south speaking with older ones? The farther back you go the stronger the accents, due to the fact that people traveled less so accents were MUCH deeper and less muddled than today. As for the London accents I've no knowledge on whether they were location-accurate I can only say that it was very easy to tell each of the characters apart even before the speakers name was mentioned. That to me is an accomplishment in itself.
I really enjoyed the way Ms. Bryan allowed you to grow with the characters. From their initial hopes and dreams, to when these were replaced with reality, how reality changed their personalities, and then how they coped with these changes. It was also very interesting to see how each women turned out in the end. I'm always left with well what about when they're old, what happens then, do they get over everything? It was nice to see how it all ended up for them in the end. All in all a good listen.
