Weird tale; not my taste!
Revisado: 04-30-24
I’m happy with the fantasy of a straight up romance tale set in the Regency. In England. Anything beyond that, such as otherworldly characters., Is not to my taste.

Historia
Elise Lanscarr is furious—her very own sister has married the man Elise had marked for herself. Feeling betrayed, she flees London, determined to return to the one place where everything was once as it should be: her family home in Ireland. But when her stagecoach crashes in a storm, she finds herself cast adrift in the wilds with no one to help but a rough-looking, albeit handsome, stranger—one who has obviously never been informed of the “proper” rules of society.

Although I could tell how the story would endMaxwell was skilled enough to keep me on edge until…read the book! It was one of the best romance novels I’ve ever read. I loved it.

Historia
Melissa North had assumed that after eight years of not setting eyes on each other, her youthful attraction to - or an infatuation with - Julian Delamere, once Viscount Dagenham and now earl of Carsely, would have faded to nothing and gasped its last. Unfortunately, during the intervening years, she has failed to find any suitable suitor who measures up to her mark, and she is resigned to ending her days an old maid. Then she sees Julian across a crowded ballroom, and he sees her, and the intensity of their connection shocks her.

Read and enjoy this book.
Revisado: 06-05-23
Well drawn characters, believable, love story, mild tension, and a satisfying ending. What else could you want from a book? I’ve read many of Stephanie Laurens’ earlier books, including the second generation of Cynsters. Over the years, she has refined and honed her craft. I highly recommend reading this book.

Wonderful story, engaging characters
Revisado: 01-10-22
This story is full of twists and turns, and while many of them can be anticipated it’s very worthwhile to listen to the excellent narrator play the parts of the hero and heroine as well as the not so delightful wicked people. I recommend it highly.

Extremely poor reader
Revisado: 03-28-18
This reader has a stilted, almost sing song way of performing the story, with trite, stereotypical ways of interpreting the characters. Her mispronunciation of simple words is annoying — “aks” for “ask” is the most egregious. I really cannot comment on the story, since I would lose track of the dialogue and narrative. There was no effort to use any kind of Scots brogue. When the reader used the Scots word “Ken” meaning “know,” I waited for her to say “Barbie!” I will return this novella.

Historia
Mike Cavanaugh was a firefighter; it was his job to rescue people. Though inviting them home wasn't usually part of the job description. But when he pulled Christine Palmer out of her burning house, something about the gutsy single mom made him want to protect her, to make her life a little better.

Another Robin Carr excellent read/listen
Revisado: 06-10-16
Therese Plummer has teamed with Ms. Carr to present several books in several series -- all uniformly excellent books to read and to listen to.
I always regret when I've finished the last book in an intriguing series, and listen to each on (out of order) many more times. Knowing the story's end doesn't reduce the pleasure of repeating the experience. Plus, I seem to discover nuances and find tidbits that point the way to further understanding of what is to come. In a way, this makes me a more literate, competent reader/listener as I ask myself, "Why does the writer put in this sequence of events, or add details to a descriptions?"
Highly recommended!

Poor Lord Anselm! The dashing bachelor was forever plagued with dying relatives leaving their female children to his care. Indeed, he had squired so many a silly miss from schoolroom to marriage mart that he had sworn off women altogether.

M.C. BEATON FOR PRESIDENT!
Revisado: 03-05-15
M.C. BEATON FOR PRESIDENT, or queen, or any high office.
She has mastered the art of story-telling, crafting unique characters and plots. I like the relatively short length of her work -- sometimes the misunderstandings and lousy communication between the H and h create too much tension, and I want to skip those parts. Knowing the happy ending is only a few chapters away, I can manage the stress.
Believable plots? How would I know? I live in a 21st century riven with strife and brutality. I am more than willing to suspend disbelief for few hours in order to reach the joy of a very tidy happy ending. The idealism, optimism and ultimate justice found in good romance books is a very good reason to read them. The overwhelming popularity of the genre hints at the fact that there are lots of us who cherish these values.
