Historia
Why are measures of stress and anxiety on the rise when economists and politicians tell us we have never had it so good? While statistics tell us that the vast majority of people are getting steadily richer, the world most of us experience day in and day out feels increasingly uncertain, unfair, and ever more expensive. In Angrynomics, Eric Lonergan and Mark Blyth explore the rising tide of anger, sometimes righteous and useful, sometimes destructive and ill-targeted, and propose radical new solutions for an increasingly polarized and confusing world.

Historia
When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.

Had such potential...but just saturated in overly descriptive pretentiousness and weak storylines. Bummer.
Revisado: 10-26-18
I so wanted to love this book but I give it a “Meh.” I wanted to read it before seeing the movie and I hid myself from any images of the film so the characters were from my head and not Hollywood! :-) Slow beginning that had little crescendo so I expected more. The overly descriptive elements became annoying. Sure, it’s about Crazy Rich Asians, I get it, but you get totally lost in the name dropping of designers and locations that it gets annoying and it seems to be more important than the actual story line (if that’s the point, hence the title, well played!) :-) Lynn Chen did a nice job but her English and French accents got in the way sometimes. She also had a way of speaking that filled her mouth with saliva, I just kept getting uncomfortable and saying to myself, “Breathe Lynn. Now swallow.” It was quite distracting at times for a listener, especially when you have to pay close attention to all the names, labels, designers, names of locations, et al. But, I now say A La MAK (phonetic spelling sorry!) instead of Oh My God! since listening to this book. Lol. I will say, it kept my interest enough during my long drives for work but was disappointed by the overall story and the ending. Loved the different perspective, especially thoughts on the West, refreshing to hear that. Also impressive that Kevin Chen must have done a boat load of research because of the details in the art, decor, clothing, homes, etc, albeit overly done. To sum up my all over the place review, weak story line, annoying overly done descriptions that interfere with the plot, voice performance was good but distracting many times, and ending was rushed and disappointing. When you take out the extravagance, it’s a bunch of mediocre mini stories written in a manner that lacks the “Umph” to make me want to listen to the next two by Kwan. Congrats on the movie...which out of pure curiosity, I want to see how they do the luxury! Cheers!
