Historia
Newlyweds Tricia and Ethan are searching for the house of their dreams. But when they visit the remote manor that once belonged to Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychiatrist who vanished without a trace four years earlier, a violent winter storm traps them at the estate… with no chance of escape until the blizzard comes to an end. In search of a book to keep her entertained until the snow abates, Tricia happens upon a secret room. One that contains audio transcripts from every single patient Dr. Hale has ever interviewed.

7+ hours of my life I’ll never get back!
Revisado: 09-27-23
This was honestly the worst audiobook I can recall listening to. I kept with it, through completely unlikeable characters, because some of the reviews mentioned a big twist at the end. The twist only slightly redeemed it. If I hadn’t gotten this one on sale I would return for sure. Don’t waste your time.

Historia
On a rainy November evening, a young woman hurries through the crowd in London’s historic Russell Square. Out of the darkness, someone jostles her, then brushes past. A moment later, she stumbles, collapsing against a tree. When a young mother finds her body and alerts the police, Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and his sergeant, Doug Cullen, are called to the scene. The victim, Sasha Johnson, is a trainee doctor at a nearby hospital, and she’s been stabbed.

Love, Love, Love this series! Another excellent story and narration. Deborah Crombie never disappoints. I wish I didn’t have to wait so long for the next installment in this series.

Historia
New York, 1960: For Benny Lament, music is his entire life. With his father’s deep ties to the mob, the Bronx piano man has learned that love and family can get you in trouble. So he keeps to himself, writing songs for other musicians, avoiding the spotlight…until the night his father brings him to see Esther Mine sing. Esther is a petite powerhouse with a gorgeous voice. And when Benny writes a hit song and performs it with her, their collaboration thrusts the duo onto the national stage…and stirs up old issues and new scrutiny that the mob--and Benny--would rather avoid.

I didn’t want it to end!
Revisado: 08-24-21
One of my top 10 audiobooks! Great characters and a great time period it’s set in. Today it seems like relationships like that of Benny and Esther are ubiquitous, but in 1960 it took courage for true love to prevail in that situation. Although I rarely listen to a title more than once, this might change after listening this one. Perfect narration.

Narrator was distracting!
Revisado: 07-05-20
The book was good overall, but the narrator’s breathy delivery put me off. Her voice and English accent were pleasant, just didn’t care for delivering nearly every sentence in a breathy whisper.

When she stumbles across the ad, she’s looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss - a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten - by the luxurious “smart” home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family. What she doesn’t know is that she’s stepping into a nightmare - one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Big disappointment!
Revisado: 08-18-19
After loving both The Death of Mrs. Westaway and In a Dark, Dark Wood, I happily preordered this book. Big mistake to purchase without reading others’ reviews. The book dragged on and on, so much so that I jumped ahead, which I absolutely never do. And that ending! I felt cheated. Intend to return this one.

Good story but over long
Revisado: 03-16-19
Interesting story, with a lot of period detail of London in the 1920’s, but seemed way too long. Could have cut at least 25% and still had a good story.

Starts off slow
Revisado: 03-31-18
I almost returned this one, it’s hard to get into at first. Be patient—-after about the first hour it picks up. I prefer Ms. St. James’ books that are set in the past to this one with a more contemporary time frame. However, in the end it was worth the credit.

Historia
Mary Mallon was a courageous, headstrong Irish immigrant woman who bravely came to America alone, fought hard to climb up from the lowest rung of the domestic service ladder, and discovered in herself an uncanny, and coveted, talent for cooking. Working in the kitchens of the upper class, she left a trail of disease in her wake, until one enterprising and ruthless "medical engineer" proposed the inconceivable notion of the "asymptomatic carrier" - and from then on Mary Mallon was a hunted woman.

I didn't see what all the fuss was about...
Revisado: 07-01-13
I bought this book mainly due to the large number of positive reviews, and the fact that it has some medical history in it, which I enjoy reading about. My main problem with this book is that the characters were totally unlikeable, particularly Mary. I had to force myself to finish it because I didn't want to waste my credit.
