Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

lovely
Revisado: 03-18-22
The writing leaves one with the feeling and a sense of gravity typical of a much older tome. Everything about the story was just right.

Historia
Gravity affects every aspect of our physical being, but there’s a psychological force just as powerful - yet almost nobody has heard of it. It’s responsible for bringing groups of people together and pulling them apart, making certain goals attractive to some and not to others, and fueling cycles of anxiety and conflict. In Wanting, Luke Burgis draws on the work of French polymath René Girard to bring this hidden force to light and reveals how it shapes our lives and societies.

awesome book! definitely going to relisten
Revisado: 01-15-22
unfortunately, something about the quality of the audio really accentuates the letters s and z, and it's a little bit painful to the ear. I could never quite find a perfect volume to listen at, either. the whole thing would be too quiet, or it would sound normal but every s and z would ring my ears. They almost sounded like they were whistling. But the book is fantastic, great thinker!

What a cluster
Revisado: 12-09-21
No sense wasting time talking about it. The story was in a completely random order, and it didn't seem to have a point. not a single one of the characters truly illustrated growth. This sort of seems like the random drunken musings and memories That A group of sisters around a table took turns blurting out.

best book I've listened to in a long time
Revisado: 12-02-21
The writing is so genuine, and the image it paints is both accurate and colored with emotions that so many people of that time shared. It expresses a mingled combination of feelings and memories that's very hard to describe to someone who hasn't lived it-- And it does a very good job of giving others a glimpse, And in doing so helping people understand what that life experience was like.

Historia
In his landmark best seller The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant, in the blink of an eye, that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept?

amazing. I'm definitely going to relisten!
Revisado: 09-28-21
And I don't usually reread/relisten to books. But this one was the one you just couldn't stop listening to. It was so interesting, and had so much useful knowledge that's going to color the way I look at the world! I already shared insights from it with my team at work, with friends, and with my husband at home.
