Calvin's initial order to find Rayden takes him deeper into a plot that leaves him questioning who's side he should be on. There's palpable struggle as you find yourself fighting with and running from all the demons Calvin and crew members face. Did Calvin bite off more than he can chew? The more he learns, the more he Must discover to determine the truth. Is he fast enough to evade Captin Numeau the Intell's greatest detective. The famed Captain picks up the trail behind the Nighthawk finding bread crumbs that leave him questioning the Capital world's Intelligence organization forwhich he works. I love the thickness of the plot and the intrigue. Let's peel back the layers together and find out what's going on!

Unfolding corrupt upon corrupt leaders

You get to meet many of the secret groups and their motives. Richard does a great job of introducing these various dark, thirsty, power hungry organizations. You also see who Calvin's true friends are! When showing the darkness of Richard's painfully evil characters
Matthew Ebel voices such a talent with each of the various charachters like Darkmoth, and Zane bringing them to life. What a thinker that Calvin, always testing theories and digging deeper, chipping away the conspiracies at play, and chipping at the wall protecting his heart. I challenge you to plan on finishing the the series. It's worth the read/ listen!!!

As he uses his deductive investigating skills he finds he pulled on a string that just keeps unraveling with what feels like no end. With every turn he makes he discovers more dark, and more secretive powers at play. Who can he trust?

characters you wish you could meet!

I recommend that you follow the Phoenix series all the way through, start to finish. Each character is unique and different. My Favorite is Lieutenant Calvin Cross. I could visualize each individually described character, their personalities and manorisms! They were believable, likable parts in a vast universe. They made you feel compassion, or disgust for each part they played. I would enjoy seeing this story turned into a movie. Richard Sanders is a creative innovative writer. I look forward to his next series!

There are a lot of hidden gems in this book. I will go go back and listen to it again. The only thing stopping me is the reader. She sounds too forceful, and her voice is a bit annoying.
