Refreshing take on the Zombie genre
Revisado: 03-27-15
I would be skeptical about a book that combines aliens, zombies and super powers however Kirk Allmond managed to pull off and create a great series. I highly recommend this series. All the books were just as good as each other, so I'm only giving a review for the first book as there is no need to give a review of the others. I really don't have any criticisms for this series it's well paced and the character development is excellent over the 6 books. You will not be disappointed buying this book.

ONE OF THE BEST ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE BOOKS EVER!!!
Revisado: 08-28-14
If you read the first book of this series then you have to read book 2. The writing for book 2 was just as funny and unique as the first book.
Any book that incorporates a talking Captain Morgan Bottle that urges the protagonists to go out for Zombie Hunting Season is a can't miss book. I forget how many times I laughed out loud at the dialogue between Gus and Captain Morgan.
My only disappointment with this book was that it contained no information about Scott and his pursuit of the sociopathic serial killer Tennor? Hopefully that will be addressed in a third book because that story line has a lot of potential not to get any follow up on.
I'm sure anyone who reads this book will have one or two favorite lines, for me without doubt my favorite line in this book was near the end when Gus asked Adam what kind of shape he was in when they found him. Adams reply, "You looked like a piece of steak flipped off someones barbecue and rolled around in S#!T."... Hahaha.
This is a great book no doubt about it.

Historia
Whispering Pines is a classic, quiet, private American subdivision on the edge of Asheville, NC, set in the pristine Blue Ridge Mountains. Which is good since the zombie apocalypse has come to Western North Carolina and really put suburban living to the test! Surrounded by a sea of the undead, the residents of Whispering Pines have adapted their bucolic life of block parties to scavenging parties, common area groundskeeping to immediate area warfare, neighborhood beautification to neighborhood fortification.

MUST READ ZOMBIE GENRE
Revisado: 08-11-14
Zombie/Prepper/ post-apocalyptic books are the only books I get on Audible. Having purchased so many of these books I have a good perspective on what is an isn't good, what is and isn't unique. With that said the Z-Burbia series is easily one of the best I've ever purchased. Not only was the story great, unique and actually funny at times, but the narrator was very enjoyable.
The best I'm usually hoping for in a narrator is that they don't ruin a good story. In
Z-Burbia Andrew Wehrlen the narrator took an already great story and made it better. I hope he continues narrating more and more books because he is the best I've heard so far.
I've read all the books in this series and so rather than give a review for each I'm just giving an overall series review because all the books were equal.
There are some interesting twists in this book but by far the best part is the main character and his relentless sarcasm, which the narrator does a good job putting forth.
Don't hesitate to buy this book.

11 BUCKS FOR A 3 HOUR BOOK????
Revisado: 08-11-14
The story is good, the narration is nothing to write home about, but it's tolerable, and there is no doubt that I would purchase the entire series, HOWEVER, this author should have made these 3 books into 1. These are seriously short books that they are charging full price for. I routinely get books that are 9-12hours long for the same price and are just as good if not better.
So to sum up my review, this is a good book but it suffers from the way it is priced. For that reason I'm not going to buy the next books. Don't know whose decision it is to price it like this, but I've seen other authors put all their books into one volume on Audible in order to avoid this complaint. Either cut the price of the book or put them together, but keeping it this way is no value at all.

Historia
For decades, the Mexican drug cartels looked at the United States of America as a business partner. The cartels supplied the drugs, and the millions of American addicts supplied them with an endless amount of money. But when the War on Drugs heats up and the money alone is not enough, the cartels decided to up the ante. With the help of a ruthless Russian mercenary, they unleashed a lethal bio-weapon, initially conceived during the Cold War to quickly bring the West to her knees.

Awesome Book. A must read.
Revisado: 08-09-14
I actually bought this book 3-4 months ago and started and stopped it a couple of times, not being able to get past the first 60 minutes. Luckilly I recently just finished another book and didn't have a new book downloaded on my phone so I decided to give Slow Burn another go. It turns out that this is quite easily one of my favorite Zombie Genre books, and if you look at my library you can see my vast collection of zombie, prepper, post-apocalypse books.
As I said that first hour is a little slow, but after that the story gets going. This is a great start to what looks to be an incredible series. With multiple story lines I'm really excited to find out where they are all going to intersect.

Narrator used a tin can and string as a microphone
Revisado: 08-06-14
Seriously, I think they guy recorded this book while sitting on the toilet because the amount of echo you hear makes this book painful to listen to. A real shame because the story isn't half bad. I can't believe how many Audible books get ruined by the narrator and the production values used to record the book.
There are much better books out there with better narration and equally as good story lines, so my recommendation is to only purchase if you seriously cannot find another book in this genre you like.

Fantastic Ending to this Story
Revisado: 03-30-14
Ok, I will admit that I do not like most zombie/apocalypse type books with female lead character. However this series was great and I really liked the way they ended the story.
The only thing I didn't care for in this book was there were too many different classes of zombies which made the story disjointed. I don't mind taking liberties with Zombie canon, however I counted like 4-5 different types of zombies in this book.
I know the author could have dragged out a couple more books using this storyline, however I appreciate how he ended it.
Highly recommend this book.

BAGS OF MONEY ARE USELESS IN ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!
Revisado: 03-30-14
Still with the bags of money storyline??? At what point do you realize that money is worthless in a Zombie Apocalypse.
You want to believe that Halverson is a smart badass character, yet he continues making stupid choices.
This book also completely forgot to explain how all of a sudden the Zombies started working as a team?? Are they being directed by a smart zombie?? I don't mind the story going in that direction, but to not address this obvious departure from traditional zombie canon with nary an explanation is weak.
I'm still giving this story a chance with the hope that the next book will be better.
Not the worst but not the best either. I would recommend the book, however only to zombie/apocalypse genre fans.

Has potential for a great Series
Revisado: 03-25-14
Ok, I really wanted to like this story more but the pace of it was just to slow. I do really like the concept of the Halverson character, however I feel this story did not utilize his potential. Would a guy like this really waste his time with a bunch of losers who seemed more interested in sacks of money then trying to acquire more practical items for staying alive?
The world is clearly going to hell in a hand basket around you and you think a million dollars will somehow be useful.
Why does just about every TEOWAWKI or Zombie story contain characters who have to do stupid crap to screw things up for everyone else.
But I digress, I will keep reading this series with the hope that it gets better.

Please have some consistency!!
Revisado: 01-26-14
I want to first say that I really like where this story has gone in books 2,3,4. The characters and storyline where excellent, and I highly recommend those books to everyone.
With that being said this series has been all over the place. The first book and narrator were horrible. As stated above the next 3 books were great and the narrators did a good job. Then this turd. The story although not as good as the previous 2 books is ok, my problem lies mainly with the bad narration and crappy production values. The 'tele-type' sound effects are beyond annoying.
My biggest issue lies is in the lack of consistency this series has had. If you look at all the books in this series they all have different narrators. Now that can be ok, but then keep the production side of things the same. Listening to this book felt like I was listening to an entirely different series then the last 3 books. And compared to the last book this narrator sucked bad.
After getting through books 2,3,4 in about a week I was looking forward to this one, but am disappointed. I wouldn't tell anyone who have already invested in the other books in the series not to get it, but I think you will see what I am saying after the first hour or so.
If I can make a plea to all the authors and/or publishing companies out there in control of getting these books made in audio format, it's to please understand that book series that are as linear as this one need to have the same narrator throughout. If I could compare it to movies, this is akin to having a different actor play Frodo in each Lord of the Rings movies.
Joe Nobody you have a lot of promise with your stories but if you don't have someone who can give your books the performance they need people won't buy them.
