I don’t think the author can find the story. The characters just whine all the time. I keep fast forwarding through all the chapters. Characters repeat same things over and over again. Painful.

I couldn’t put this book down! I listened to the entire book in one day. The narrator is exceptional. I love the ghost-writer angle as a metaphor for how life feels sometimes: are you living your own life or through someone else’s? The locations are quintessentially Southern California and tie to the romantic history and current creative elites obsession with Palm Springs and the high desert. Great fiction about a rock and roll legacy, a mystery book about an unsolved murder and ultimately, a moving narrative about a young woman finding empowerment. I loved this book! Glamorous, fun, compelling and emotionally moving!

Why do the characters constantly thank each other? It’s the weirdest thing. Who was the editor of this series. Would be so much better with a decent editor. There are literally hundreds of “thank you’s” in this series. A very polite fantasy. I don’t think I can finish it it. The story is not compelling enough.

Love the emotional intimacy developing between Charles and Ana. I like the complicated intersectional power plays that are portrayed.

Interesting characters and family disfunction on an island with magic. All one can do is “get out.” Microcosm of The US reflecting the growing tribalism of folks who never leave tiny communities and the judgments that build over the generations between families and the have and have nots. The narration was great. This one is compelling and left me with a bit of melancholy. It’s a wonderful listen.
