Stellar! Fantastic and captivating beginning and it progressed on from there! And what an end … could not put it down

And now, in this era of a Trump police state and government overreach, this story is quite prescient and chilling

As a 67 y/o, I remember alt weekly’s… and I miss them. I remember early Craigslist and Backpage, I remember taking out ads, or perusing for sale ads in the back of newspapers, and that all seemed to dwindle away after the late 1990s and early 00s, but I never thought about the reasons

I clearly remember the early demonization of backpage and the political hatchet job politicians took to step on the backs of supporters of sex workers and slicing and dicing the Section 230 law to fit their narrative

I never knew about Mike Lacy and james Larkin

This was a wonderful, delightful, educational, and I think well balanced presentation.

It’s worth every minute – – and I binged listen

It took a bit to get use tot he style, but after the first 25-30 pages, (maybe 3 😉) it was a non stop read / listen

Tom Stechschulte also took a short bit to get use to, but again, after a few minutes he brought the book to life and was integral in capturing the bleak, dark, and not sure where it was going or how it was going to end, story

Just fantastic

From the phone call w Arlene Robinson at the start of chapter 3, something sounded fishy or odd or unbelievable, and it continued throughout. I have read all of David Baldaccis books and look forward each summer to catching up…. This was drudgery. The performances and characters were excellent, or I would have put it down unfinished

After the last disappointing book, I took a few weeks off before I picked up a great reckoning – – oh how wonderful. The characters in the story are front and center and while the murder mystery ties it together, the characters and the charm of three pines is again the central part of the read. So rich. I again am back to wanting to spend time with these people at the end of the workday - longing for a scotch with Ruth in the Bistro

Mr Bathurst just does not do it for me; I read much of the story rather than listen :-((

What a wonderful, insightful, endearing, perspective on the emotional ups and downs of being a parent of a special needs child.

The joys and the triumphs, the initial sadness, but always the unwavering love is clear

And the writing — what a delightful read. Appropriate humor that all parents will appreciate while writing such a moving and heartfelt book, is hard to pull off, but Heather Lanier does so !

And Rebecca Lowman pulls it all together with a stellar performance

I am enthralled with Three Pines and Louise Penny and the characters. The stories and the plot lines are incidental to my time with Gamache and crew and, Ralph Cosham has been the central voice and brings the characters to life

I did not enjoy, and frankly found the story more over the top than usual, but in the past I still relished my time with the personalities, and drinking cafe au lait with them.

Not this one

Robert Bathurst read the story -- as if reading non fiction. No performance -- it was if I was using text to speech software, and it made me realize how central the performance is to the books enjoyment

I read more of this book than other Gamach books to get away from Mr Bathurt's reading and back into the voice of Ralph Cosham. To be fair - and it only partly succeeded.

The story was weak and incredulous, but I did not want to spend time with Mr Bathurst ... which made the story weakness even weaker

Mr Bathhurst had a very difficult job given the 130 or so hours I have spent with Ralph Cosham over the last few months.

This work is by far my least favorite Gamache title .. and if it were the first, I would not revisit them. After finishing reading/listening to a title, I usually will immediately download the next, and start anew. When finished with The Nature of the Beast, I moaned: "Finally..."

The story is a bit incredulous, but I so enjoy my time with them I WANT to be with them despite it

and something I am coming to realize how much Ralph Cosham has infused their personalities that they draw me to want to listen and when I read, I hear his voice

I so enjoy this series ... and my time together with the characters

In my experience, it is rare for a movie or series to be more engaging than the book. Though the netflix series was excellent, and the fidelity to the book was almost one to one, the book still outperforms the series.

The reading performance was superb !

What a treat to relive this title

I had not experienced walter tevis before this, but have added his books to my to reading list

This was one of the most powerful books i have read about a young person’s, a woman’s, an orphan’s, or any person without means, exercise of self determination i have read

Emotional, heartwarming, a story of overcoming a multitude of demons, and a novel means (chess) of winning against the establishment
