All Hail Andy Serkis
Revisado: 02-18-24
A profound thank you to Andy Serkis for his tremendous contribution to the Rings universe. Not only is his Gollum indelible on screen, his stunning narration of the three Rings trilogy made these purchases the most memorable and satisfying of everything I’ve bought so far on Audible. This is what an audiobook should strive to achieve, to leave its audience utterly shattered by the sheer talent of the performer. How lucky we are to be living in the same time as Mr. Serkis, he can LITERALLY do everything with his voice - except sing… Will listen to this again and again.

Don’t meet your heroes
Revisado: 11-21-23
Loving Chandler Bing was easy. Loving Matthew Perry was hard, and even he knew that. A miserable tale of a life squandered. Yes, it’s very sad he passed away prematurely, but like Matt LeBlanc said, he’s now finally, finally free.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Surprisingly relatable and nuanced
Revisado: 01-15-23
To hear this memoir read by its author is truly extraordinary. Harry doesn’t hold back in his sincere and, at times, halting narration. He chuckles occasionally, howls loudly once, bristles with anger and indignation frequently, and almost audibly succumbs to emotions when detailing Meg’s thoughts of suicide. I don’t think the experience would’ve been quite as immersive or gutting had I just read this book.
As unrelatable as his royal life seemed at first, his disappointments, outbursts, frustrations, fears, regrets, bewilderment, anger and the profound sense of betrayal are completely understandable and only too human. In light of it all, how could we NOT root for Harry and Meg?

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Incredible narrator does Master Story Teller justice
Revisado: 10-10-22
Hauntingly dark, gory, brutal, but ultimately uplifting, epic and satisfying, with shades of The Hunger Games sprinkled here and there (but better). The various interpretations of the well known fairy tales here are more true to Grimm’s than to Disney’s versions.
Brilliantly read and voice acted - not merely narrated - in this audiobook that the nightmarish images become indelible and forever etched in your memory. Charlie Reade is a hero for the ages at 17, I’ve never rooted for a protagonist more. I thought it very clever to make him Prince Charlie=Prince Charming. How apt! And you can’t help but fall in love with Radar. Any book or movie or show with a dog in it immediately becomes better, imho.
The brilliance of this book is how it takes the time to believably explore both worlds, ours and The Other (similar to Stranger Things), all the while diving into recognizable themes such as overcoming childhood traumas, fight for the greater good, self sacrifice and finding courage in the most dire circumstances with the help of unlikely friends. Oh, and sweet karma.
Stunning world building in the sure hands of my favorite author Stephen King, who rarely disappoints. This one ranks right up there with The Stand. Highly recommended.

Was just OK
Revisado: 03-23-22
Unfortunately did not enjoy this as much as I did The Henna Artist. The plot did not thrill as it got bogged down by painfully detailed and slowly developing “revelations” that were foreshadowed super early on. The Nimmi performer drove me nuts with her halting and always “on the verge of crying” voice. I was also disappointed with the almost complete absence of Radha. And the way Lakshmi took on the dangerous gold smugglers all by her lonesome like a yesteryear cowboy, complete with a long trench coat and a horse, made me laugh out loud. I know, good sequels are hard to come by.

For all The Expanse fans out there, don’t miss!
Revisado: 06-18-21
As a huge fan of all things The Expanse, both the series and the books (9th and last book is FINISHED, thank you Ty & Daniel), this gem of a podcast is something I stumbled upon first on YouTube and found irresistible even at an unhurried hour+ playtime per episode.
In fact, that’s the best part about it, Ty & Wes clearly don’t give a hoot about viewership, they do this because they enjoy the banter, while discussing funny or illuminating BTS tidbits, they give us glimpses of the creative processes that go into the filmmaking and the writing. In each episode they hilariously announce their top five movies in whatever genres that come up in each episode. Wes is of course always right. (This is how I ended up watching Logan’s Run… interesting but didn’t love it, sorry)
They are self deprecating yet cocksure masters of their craft, Wes is thoughtful, articulate and NOTHING like Amos (in a good way), Ty’s love for his wife will make you cry, and the guests are amazing (Thomas Jane! Ron Perlman!). I always end up learning a ton, and always look forward to the next episode. Highly recommended.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Came here after watching the Netflix show, which was incredible. Of course loved the story, but wow, I hated this audible delivery. So bad it ruined the book for me
