Historia
Ordinary Men is the true story of Reserve Police Battalion 101 of the German Order Police, which was responsible for mass shootings as well as round-ups of Jewish people for deportation to Nazi death camps in Poland in 1942. Browning argues that most of the men of RPB 101 were not fanatical Nazis but, rather, ordinary middle-aged, working-class men who committed these atrocities out of a mixture of motives, including the group dynamics of conformity, deference to authority, role adaptation, and the altering of moral norms to justify their actions.

Masterful and well-documented

A very well narrated book that gives a lot of insight into the mindset of the ordinary men who carried out The Holocaust.

Historia
The Falklands War was one of the strangest in British history - 28,000 men sent to fight for a tiny relic of empire 8,000 miles from home. At the time, many Britons saw it as a tragic absurdity, but the British victory confirmed the quality of British arms and boosted the political fortunes of the Conservative government.

Interesting but Anglo-centric
Revisado: 08-03-17
Would you listen to Battle for the Falklands again? Why?
This is definitely a worthwhile book and it describes a war that (outside of the UK and Argentina) is largely forgotten.
What did you like best about this story?
Cameron Stewart's narration is superb in this book.
Have you listened to any of Cameron Stewart’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is definitely one of his better performances. Maybe because he is not forced to fake so many accents.

Historia
The Normandy landings that took place on D-day involved by far the largest invasion fleet ever known. The scale of the undertaking was simply awesome. What followed them was some of the most cunning and ferocious fighting of the war, at times as savage as anything seen on the Eastern Front. As casualties mounted, so, too, did the tensions between the principal commanders on both sides. Meanwhile, French civilians caught in the middle of these battlefields or under Allied bombing endured terrible suffering.

Great, detailed and compelling
Revisado: 08-03-17
Would you consider the audio edition of D-Day to be better than the print version?
The main hurdle of the audio edition is that you (or, at least, I) need to get a hold of a map to follow the often very detailed movements of troops.
What other book might you compare D-Day to and why?
This is a great supplement to Beevor's book on The Second World War.
What does Cameron Stewart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Cameron Stewart is a great narrator. The one thing I personally dislike is the "fake accents" he does when quoting sources, but I suppose that is down to personal taste.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When the narrator consistently called the Leibstandarte SS for the Liebstandarte (Lieb means love in German).
Any additional comments?
A great and compelling story. Highly recommendable.

Historia
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

In the Boss' own words
Revisado: 04-26-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Born to Run to be better than the print version?
I generally prefer books on paper (sorry, Audible), but in this case I prefer the audiobook for the sole reason that Bruce Springsteen narrates it himself. It is authentic, intense and passionate.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Born to Run?
The red thread that runs through the book where Springsteen discusses his relationship to his father and also tells about his own struggles with depression are gripping. But basically the whole book is just a goldmine of information for any fan.
Which scene was your favorite?
The book heavily focuses on the early years and especially Springsteens description of his time in Steel Mill and Castilles and up to the point of the first record deal with Columbia is interesting.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me rethink Springsteens music when I listen to it.
Any additional comments?
A must for any fan.

A Brief History of the Cold War

Historia
The Cold War was an undeclared war, fought silently and carefully between ideological opponents armed with the most fearsome weapons mankind has ever seen. Hughes-Wilson takes a cool look at this war, from the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 to the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the dissolution of the USSR thereafter. He examines the suspicion and paranoia -- on both sides -- of the greatest stand-off in history.

A woefully unbalanced and haughty view
Revisado: 04-12-17
What did you like best about A Brief History of the Cold War? What did you like least?
The fact that it is one of the few books that focus on the entire span of the Cold War is definitely it's force.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The fact that it covers the entire Cold War period is the sole claim to fame for this book. The fact that it is one-sided, biased and written in an incredibly condescending and arrogant tone detracts a lot from the merits.
What does Philip Franks bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He does a good work of reading the book.
Did A Brief History of the Cold War inspire you to do anything?
It inspired me to at least try to be neutral when I, myself, try to make a narrative about a conflict. Also it inspired me not to view the world through a lense of haughty arrogance.

History for busy people. The Cold War: History in an Hour gives a brilliant overview of the unusual and non-violent war between East and West that lasted nearly fifty years. From the end of World War Two to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 the world lived within the shadow of the Cold War. Russia and America eyed each other with suspicion and hostility.

History for busy people. Listen to a concise history of the Vietnam War in just one hour. War, what is it good for? The Vietnam War: History In an Hour gives a gripping account of the most important Cold War-era conflict, fought between the United States and the Viet Cong, the Vietnam People’s Army and their Communist allies. It was one of the most traumatic military conflicts America has ever been involved in – and provoked a backlash of anti-war protests at home.

Historia
A magisterial, single volume history of the greatest conflict the world has ever known by our foremost military historian. The Second World War began in August 1939 on the edge of Manchuria and ended there exactly six years later with the Soviet invasion of northern China. The war in Europe appeared completely divorced from the war in the Pacific and China, and yet events on opposite sides of the world had profound effects.

Revisado: 11-05-16
If you could sum up The Second World War in three words, what would they be?
Stunning, elaborate and comprehensive.
What other book might you compare The Second World War to and why?
It is definitely the best overall history of the Second World War I have read so far. It might be supplemented with a more analytical look at the war by reading Norman Davies "Europe at War 1939-1945. If one wants to explore the different campaigns further Beevor wrote great books on Berlin, D-Day and Stalingrad as well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
