I couldn't finish this book. First time for me

This book was pushing gender ideology by the back door.

It's the first time I have been unable to finish a Sharon Shinn work.

I got 7 hours in, when there was a character who was 'sometimes male, sometimes female'.

That was it for me.

Returning.

I ignored the other comments because I love MHI and I wanted to see for myself.

Well, as they say, FAFO.

This isn't even remotely like MHI. It does not work. The stories are disjointed and the narrator is like a robot. I got 3 hours in and gave up.

Part of the problem is that it's set in a culture I know nothing about. There is no mental framework within which to understand the stories. It's distracting and constantly takes on out of the narrative, Such as it is.

I'm going to ask for a refund.

mediocre story. awful narrator

The narration completely spoils this story. She's quite awful. I kept getting distracted because of her poor performance. And for the love of God, please can someone teach her how to pronounce 'jaguar' correctly? It's not 'jagu-WIRE'!!

I'm about 5 hours in. This is the first REacher title I will be returning. It's just more of exactly the same. Nothing new. Nothing interesting. Reacher hasn't changed or developed at all

Slow start, very good middle, sudden end

This story was moderately enjoyable. It takes a long while to get going, but once it does, the premise is very interesting. But it doesn't have a proper ending. It is not properly resolved, We don't get answers. Another five hours to flesh it out would have been great. The Big Bad is really novel and scary, but it just goes nowhere.

VERY POOR - dont bother

This book is silly. The premise is stupid. The only thing that saved it, is the excellent narration.

It's really quite awful. I didn't realise it was published in 1979. It shows. Audible is very naughty. Not making the publication date clear, and then sticking new covers on, so the title looks recent.

Getting my Credit back and I will be more vigilant going forwards!

Excellent book

I have absolutely loved this series. The characters are well-formed. Indeed, they now feel like friends! The story is well-plotted, beautifully written and expertly read.

I cannot wait for a return to this world. I am really hoping Ms Grayce writes more books in the series.

Totally enjoyable and a lovely escape from reality

re listening. good book, BUT

I am re-listening to this series. Damon Abdallah generally does a good book. BUT, who the hell was in charge of production?

He consistently mis-pronounces certain words, which completely take one out of the story. SIDHE being the most egregious example in this book. It's SHE not SIDE!!!! This is really basic and should have been picked up on. Likewise with other words in the previous books. It's CAL-AY not CAL-EYE, and East Anglian, not East AnGLican. I mean, come on..

Also, the narrator's attempt at various English accents, literally had myself and the kids falling about in stitches. But that's partly due to poor writing. We don't go around saying 'Guv' to each other all the time. And the same person would NEVER say both 'mate' and 'chap',

I loved this book! The shift in perspectives was great. I don't understand all of the criticism. It was great hearing Courts thoughts. More please!


Narration was generally good. Jay does Court's voice really well, and women's voices. But PLEASE, PLEASE, no more of trying to do accents. I thought the British accent from the last book couldn't get any worse. I played it to the kids and they all fell about laughing, even my 9 year old. But the South African accent was even worse. It was incomprehensibly Scottish. Jay, have you ever HEARD a South African speak?

Apart from that (which was pretty jarring), a great book and a great performance.

Narrator completely spoils this

I liked the story, but the narrator was awful. He sounds like he's reading Disney cartoons on a Saturday morning. His portrayal of women was particularly awful.

Not sure I can stand any more. I may have to give up on the series.

Please Audible, DON'T change narrators mid series!!!!!
