A Worthy Entry
Revisado: 02-13-25
I enjoyed this book. I've missed Elvis and Pike.
Following Elvis' detective work is always fun as the suspense slowly builds, and the reveals were good. You think you know all the things, but there are some surprises--at least for me. I guessed some but not all.
As usual, Crais injects a nice dose of brotherhood and feelings into his tough-guy tale.

It's a delicate mission at best, a potential bloodbath at worst. To this end, the Spirearch has supplied Benedict with backup in the form of three Warriorborn.

Frivolous fun
Revisado: 06-22-22
A fun but gently paced entry in the Royal Spyness series. Clues are deposited along the the way and tension is slowly racketed up. I do think the story could have been tightened as the pace is a bit leisurely, but it is a nice visit with Georgie and Darcy, with Queenie kept to quick strategic appearances. I'm not a Queenie fan so this made me happy.
The story nicely mixes fact with fiction and I look forward to the war years stories.

Historia
Spoilers ahead. Possibly the most romantic of all Heyer novels, in this episode we fall under the spell of Dameral - a young Classics nerd turned rake, rejected by his family and society; and Venetia - pragmatic, brave, witty and kind despite a lifetime of loneliness. Theirs is an uncommon love, and we absolutely luxuriate in it. But it's not all about the love story, because when Mrs Scorrier and Edward Yardley are on the scene the red mist of anger descends upon us. We simply cannot bear to see these domineering and outrageous figures persecute our lovely heroine. But of course, it's always ...

fun and sometimes spooky production. my only real complaint is that even with headphones, the sound was a bit muddled to me. some sounds were louder than the voices when they should have been more background.

Historia
Narrated by Emmy Award–winning actor Martin Sheen, The Home Front: Life in America During World War II takes listeners into the lives of Americans at home—part of the Greatest Generation—who supported the war effort and sustained the country during wartime. The war brought immediate, life-changing shifts: the rationing of meat, dairy products, and sugar; an explosion of war-related jobs; and, despite mixed signals, a greater role for women working outside the home.

Interesting, informative, and insightful look at American society on the homefront before and during World War II. There are things that aren't general knowledge and some thing things that extend that knowledge. Some events are incredibly sad and others infuriating.
