Historia
The New Testament is often studied in isolation, separated from other ancient writings. How did this division come about, and what do we lose by looking at it as something different? Dr. Robyn Walsh talks about what can be gained from placing the New Testament back into the canon of Classical Literature.

Captivating and ascinating
Revisado: 08-10-23
I thoroughly enjoyed the this discussion regarding the bible and from the view of it being no different and any other ancient Greek literature. I learned much even with my limited knowledge of manuscripts and my Bart Ehrman library. It was a highly enjoyable episode as well, professionally produced.

A most excellent story very well written.
Revisado: 07-26-23
The story itself is a compelling one that draws a person in completely and with deep satisfaction. Each character is deeply interesting with an existence rivaling reality. The audio quality and prevention has always been a treasure for me for many years now and I hope for many more as I revisit it like an old friend from time to time.

Historia
Many Jews and Christians today are uncomfortable with the views of slavery in the Bible; the practice is simply assumed, it is normally condoned, and it is never condemned. Even so, some Christian apologists argue that the Bible actively disapproves of slavery and was instrumental in opposing it in the modern era. But is that right? In this episode I interview one of the premier experts on the question, Dr. Josh Bowen, who has written two books on the matter; in our discussion he explains what the Bible really says about slavery and how we can put it's statements, assumptions, and laws in its...

When his wealth suddenly evaporates, however, he discovers the truth and his altruism turns to a bitter hatred of mankind. Stirred up by the cynical Apemantus, Timon retreats to the woods where he plots the destruction of Athens, the city that had formerly seemed to embody everything pleasurable and civilized. The cosmic scope of his hatred is communicated in a series of powerful and disturbing dramatic tableaux.

Shakespeare at his best human insight
Revisado: 02-03-19
I never knew this story but found it very interesting listening to about a person going from one extreme to another, the high of love and generosity to the depths of hatred and vindictiveness which makes us dwell on the very same characteristics that afflict our society today. it sadly seems humankind is doomed to persist in our benevolence and depravity, at least for the foreseeable future.

Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire that stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

Great review, distracting narrator
Revisado: 01-14-19
The book is highly detailed, well written, well researched but [WARNING} it was presented so poorly in narration that I have been unable to get past the first few chapters. The drowsy, monotone and dips at the end of each sentence and was so distracting it drew my concentration away from the content to the uncomfortable anticipation of the conclusion of each sentence. I will switch to the ebook or maybe actually order the hardback for reference sake. Hopefully this book will be released with a new narrator.

For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife, Arlette, proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness.

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

Revisado: 04-03-18
Before the technical world we know today ever put the two letters A and I together and seriously began to consider the implications of what a computer overlord would mean to humankind, this book and movie warned us. it is a classic that should be studied and taught in universities to caution our future leaders of the possible negative possibilities of an all-powerful non-human intelligence assuming complete control, however benevolent and beneficial it may appear.
