Historia
Saint-Malo, Brittany, 1758. To Lucinde Leon, the youngest daughter of a wealthy French shipowner, the high walls of Saint-Malo are more hindrance than haven. While her sisters are busy trying to secure advantageous marriages, Luce spends her days secretly being taught to sail by Samuel, her best friend—and an English smuggler. Only he understands how the waves call to her. Then one stormy morning, Luce rescues a drowning man from the sea.

Happily surprised
Revisado: 04-01-25
I read a LOT and I'm a harsh critic. I didn't expect this book to be as good as it is! Engaging story of dark(ish) fantasy with characters you immediately like—or dislike. I lost 3 hours of sleep last night listening to it to finish it in the wee hours. I'll be recommending this one to everyone I know. Give us more, Kell Woods!

All My Knotted-Up Life is a beautifully crafted portrait of resilience and survival, a poignant reminder of God’s enduring faithfulness, and proof positive that if we ever truly took the time to hear people’s full stories . . . we’d all walk around slack-jawed.

Good for you, Beth. This book is so well written but I expected nothing less. I have learned so much from her Bible studies. She is a woman of God. Bravo for bringing truth to light. I am a staunch republican but I know wrong from right. Thank God there are others who do too.

Historia
Los Angeles, 1920s: Socialite Mirielle West's days are crowded with shopping, luncheons, and prepping for the myriad glittering parties she attends with her actor husband, Charlie. She's been too busy to even notice the small patch of pale skin on the back of her hand. Other than an occasional overindulgence in gin and champagne, which helps to numb the pain of recent tragedy, Mirielle is the picture of health. But her doctor insists on more tests, and Mirielle reluctantly agrees. The diagnosis - leprosy - is devastating and unthinkable.

Fascinating subject

The story captivated me from page one. I’d never heard of a lepers colony in Louisiana and even if half the facts were made up, it was a good read.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Too much sadness
Revisado: 01-21-24
I love Lisa See and have read several of her books, which I would give five stars to —each one. But this one was just too sad. Yes, it was well written as all of her books are but The story went from worse to worst, and I just wanted some kind of redemption at the end. Oh, that’s my take on it anyway.

Couldn’t put it down
Revisado: 07-17-23
I Judge a book by how well written it is, and by whether or not I’m still thinking about it the day after the week after the month after I’ve read it. This book I will never forget I highly recommend it. Just in case you’re wondering what to do, spend your credit on this. I think it should be required reading for junior high school and up.

Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Hard to read
Revisado: 06-29-23
Don’t compare the author, to Charles, Dickens, or Mark Twain. The story left me with PTSD. I kept waiting for something redeeming to happen, but waited in vain. Drug addiction, constant swearing, child abuse, and a completely flawed foster care system. I struggled to finish the book. Go ahead and read David Copperfield, Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn, and if you’ve not read this book yet, but already bought it, return it.

I wasted a credit on this
Revisado: 02-11-23
Realizing that this book was meant for young adults, I expected trivial high school stuff. But the story was completely juvenile with characters that were unlikable, made horrible decisions, and I was completely suffering through the book till the end. Why I didn’t quit halfway through. I don’t know I guess I’m a glutton for punishment.

Historia
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

Love this series but…
Revisado: 12-12-22
This latest installment was good as all the books are in this series and I had no problem with the narrator and didn’t hesitate to finish it but…too much drama for Georgie and dwelling on the same problem and location for too long. I didn’t like Darcy asking his pregnant wife to get involved in potentially dangerous espionage. Nor Georgie’s putting her baby at risk climbing over banisters and her careless snooping. But then I remind myself, it’s not REAL. Calm down.

Where was Miss Silver!
Revisado: 05-05-22
I did enjoy the book and the story. Very early 20th century and gosh golly I like that frightfully jolly era. I expected miss silver to be the main character but she wasn’t and I’m ok with it. I’ll definitely listen to the next one in the series.
