Historia
From the luxuries of court to the last gory years of the outsize King Henry when heads rolled and England trembled, Catherine bestrode her destiny and survived to marry her true love. She was the least known of Henry VIII's six wives, but was the cleverest of them all. Alluring, witty, and resourceful, she attracted the king's lust and, though in love with the handsome Thomas Seymour, was thrown into the snakepit of the royal court.

Much too long!
Revisado: 12-04-07
I listened to Philippa Gregory's book The Boleyn Inheritance and loved it. So I tried The Last Wife of Henry VIII. It didn't even come close to Philippa Gregory's book. It was too long and the first part was boring. The second part was better, but I still feel that it was a waste of my time.

I like this author
Revisado: 10-01-07
I first heard of Laura Moriarty when I read her first book "Center of Everything." I enjoyed it so much that I was glad to see her second book "The Rest of Her Life" on Audible. She is a new author and has been compared to Jodi Picault and Jane Hamilton. I really enjoyed listening to this book. It tells a story of a family that must come to grips with heart-wrenching tragedy.

Historia
For young Peony, betrothed to a suitor she has never met, lyrics from The Peony Pavilion mirror her own longings. In the garden of the Chen Family Villa, amid the scent of ginger, green tea, and jasmine, a small theatrical troupe is performing scenes from this epic opera, a live spectacle few females have ever seen. Like the heroine in the drama, Peony is the cloistered daughter of a wealthy family, trapped like a good-luck cricket in a bamboo-and-lacquer cage.

Peony, a thoughtful encounter
Revisado: 08-06-07
When I started listening to this book, I wondered why I had selected it. I kept listening to it but about half-way through I nearly decided to give up on it and I wished I had selected the abridged version. It seemed senseless and boring. But just when I had given up hope of it ever becoming interesting, I began to understand what the book was really about.Part 2 was really the best part and I became completely involved in the story. Lisa See's addition to the end of the book was very interesting.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

I loved this book!
Revisado: 07-07-07
This was the best book I've listened to in a long time! It was definitely a book to listen to--the narration was superb. I don't think I would have enjoyed the book nearly as much if I had read it. I am old enough (past 70) to remember circuses in big tops, so perhaps it appealed to me more than it would a younger person. But for me it definitely deserves 5 stars!

Historia
Mike Leonard is a lucky man. It’s not everyone who gets parents like Jack and Marge. At 87, Jack is a pathological optimist with an inexhaustible gift of gab. Marge, Jack’s bride of 60 years, though cut from the same rough bolt of Irish immigrant cloth, is his polar opposite - pessimistic and proud of it. What was their son, Mike, thinking when he took a sabbatical from his job with NBC News so he could pile these two world-class originals along with three of his grown kids and a daughter-in-law into a pair of rented RVs and hit the road for a month?

I really enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator did a fine job. The story is so heart-warming. I am usually a suspense/mystery book fan, but it was to listen to a "feel good" book for a change.

Action! Action! Action!
Revisado: 04-03-07
This book is certainly full of action and short chapters. I usually love a book that has both. But this one bothered me. There were so many characters and so MUCH action that I found it hard to follow. I did a lot of "rewinding". Each chapter told a different part of the plot and it got confusing.
I also found the ending abrupt and left unanswered questions for me.

I usually enjoy the simplicity of Nicholas Sparks'books. But this one disappointed me. It didn't stir up much emotion and was terribly predictable--even the ending.

Historia
Henry Grey doesn't particularly care for having been born the heir to an earldom. He is a reserved young man whose greatest problem is his mother's matchmaking plots and whose greatest joy is to ride as an amateur steeplechase jockey. But on a sudden impulse, he throws in his respectable desk job to join a firm that transports racehorses all over the world. Yardman Transport proves to be Henry's passport to many things, not the least the girl he loves, and a tidy little racket that brings him face to face with death.

Not a typical Dick Francis
Revisado: 01-31-07
I have been a Dick Francis fan for years. This book was not typical of his work. It started out very slowly and I almost quit listening. But it picked up and ended with a breathtaking finish.
It had little to do with horseracing; there was romance and adventure. I thought the ending was abrupt. It left me with questions unanswered.

Revisado: 11-05-06
I have been ambivalent about Anita Shreve's books. But I really enjoyed Light on Snow. It held my interest and I didn't find it at all boring. The narrator did a good job telling the story as a 12 year old.
