Historia
Seeing self-possession as the key to an existence lived 'in accordance with nature', the Stoic philosophy called for the restraint of animal instincts and the importance of upright ethical ideals and virtuous living. Seneca's writings are a profound, powerfully moving and inspiring declaration of the dignity of the individual mind.

Historia
The only true and unedited telling of the life of Christ - his life and times,in historical context, but not lacking the psychology behind his physical being and spirit. Unlike other books seeking to strip Jesus' story to reveal only the human being, Romano Guardini's The Lord gives the complete story of Jesus Christ - as man, Holy Ghost, and Creator. Pope Benedict XVI lauds Guardini's work as providing a full understanding of the Son of God away from the prejudice that rationality engenders.

7.0/10– Byron and Coleridge top notch, the rest flop
Revisado: 09-20-20
Skip to Byron and Rime of the Ancient Mariner for the magic. The rest are decent to slow, repetitive.

Historia
One of William Faulkner’s finest novels, As I Lay Dying, originally published in 1930, remains a captivating and stylistically innovative work. The story revolves around a grim yet darkly humorous pilgrimage, as Addie Bundren’s family sets out to fulfill her last wish: to be buried in her native Jefferson, Mississippi, far from the miserable backwater surroundings of her married life.

6.9/10– experimental, psychological, boring
Revisado: 09-05-20
6.9/10
Very interesting— Faulkner did not edit this manuscript. One of the most experimental works I’ve come a crossed thus far. Psychological, multiple perspectives, unique
The writing— manly, very few ‘-ly’ adverbs, mostly verbs. Not coherent at times.
Story— boring — not as boring as Charles Dickens.
I like Faulkner, good conversation to be had about him.

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

7.5/10--Southern Magic
Revisado: 08-27-20
Had the southern magic along the Mississippi River. Compared to other authors--first to use southern vernacular, which was great.
The characters were very colorful and Twain gave great insight into southern living. I adored how the language was completely country. ex. "The lightning was like a spider web in the sky" or "Thunder crashed like a barrel down the stairs--loved it. Country vernacular and genre. Loved how Huck was a compulsive liar, always wore disguises--depth.
Cons-- I could tell Twain wasn't the most superior writer, ex. how he tied up the end, the environment never changed from decisions by the characters, dialogue was weak, describing language and ideas was weak, and lost in the weeds at times.
