Historia
What’s in your garage: a Prius or a pickup? What’s in your coffee cup: Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts? What about your pet: cat or dog? As award-winning political scholars Marc Hetherington and Jonathan Weiler explain, even our smallest choices speak volumes about us - especially when it comes to our personalities and our politics. Liberals and conservatives seem to occupy different worlds because we have fundamentally different worldviews: systems of values that can be quickly diagnosed with a handful of simple parenting questions, but which shape our lives and decisions in the most elemental ways.

Do not waste your time or money on this book
Revisado: 09-26-22
This book purports to give you the answers to the reasons that America is dividing….all with four short, seemingly simple “do you prefer this or that” questions. What utter drivel!! The thought that the problems facing Americans can be reduced to “Do you prefer Clint Eastwood or Ellen DeGeneres?” Is very much like the hundreds of quizzes and games Facebook throws up in our faces every day - “pick which animal you like and we will tell you your personality” or “put your finger on the gemstone you prefer and we will give you your life saying”! Thanks but I’ll stick to my daily horoscope. The belief that we can “know all about” a person simply from one particular preference IS part of the problem and it is part of the problem that our children are picking up from us and THAT is one of the biggest dangers facing our country. The thought that people cannot be multifaceted and hold seemingly contradictory concepts at the same time. The fact that someone can “like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood” and still care about the environment or “like Ellen DeGeneres” and drive an SUV. This kind of thinking encourages people to only look at the surface and not dive deeper to really understand their neighbors or their coworkers. And THAT is the real problem.

Historia
In an era of increasing social isolation, platforms like Facebook and Twitter are among the most important tools we have to understand each other. We use social media as a mirror to decipher our place in society, but, as Chris Bail explains, it functions more like a prism that distorts our identities, empowers status-seeking extremists, and renders moderates all but invisible.

Don’t waste your money or Audible credits
Revisado: 08-08-22
I am really disappointed in this book and in particular in the narrator of this book. I had hoped to learn new insights regarding social media’s impact on our daily lives and what I got was a rehash of the already available studies. I was particularly disturbed by the author’s description of studies he himself conducted using social media “bots” to attempt to alter the beliefs of test subjects. It’s not as if we don’t have enough unsolicited influences on social media to deal with. Additionally the narrator does a poor job. The author uses the term “apostate” numerous times and he does not pronounce it correctly which is incredibly annoying. He pronounces it “a-PO-state” instead of “a-paw-state”.

A dazzling and uplifting biography of the great Saint Francis of Assisi who gained the world by giving up worldly goods to be be independent of all. Less is more at the highest level. Told in a remarkably astute, nuanced, optimistic, uplifting biography by G. K. Chesterton, known as the Prince of Paradox.

If the background music doesn’t drive you mad....,
Revisado: 10-28-19
If the back go piano tinkling doesn’t drive you mad the bumbling narration will finish the job. This was not worth the credit I used for it. The book itself is a product of its (and Chesterton’s) time and should be taken as such. The quality of the recording is poor and the narration is horrible. The creepy repetitive piano music in the background is the cherry on the top of a really crummy sundae.

Historia
In the tradition of The Elements of Style comes Trish Hall's essential new work on writing well - a sparkling instructional guide to persuading (almost) anyone, on (nearly) anything. In charge of the Op-Ed page for the New York Times, Hall spent years immersed in argument, passion, and trendsetting ideas - but also in tangled sentences, migraine-inducing jargon, and dull-as-dishwater writing. Drawing on her vast experience editing, Hall presents the ultimate guide to writing persuasively for students, job applicants, and rookie authors looking to get published.

Totally disappointed
Revisado: 07-12-19
I purchased this book after hearing the author interviewed on NPR and I had high hopes that the book would provide useful information regarding how to appropriately get noticed in the noisy media world and “how to persuade” people to listen to your arguments. Wow was I totally disappointed on so many levels. First, the author starts out by telling you that she will be providing tips and information on how to get noticed, along with A LITTLE personal background- WRONG!! This is completely a vanity piece and a bad one at that. All the author talks about is herself. No helpful information. The writing is junior high level. It’s actually embarrassing to read it is so bad. Don’t waste your money.
