Historia
12 Strong is the dramatic account of a small band of Special Forces soldiers who secretly entered Afghanistan following 9/11 and rode to war on horses against the Taliban. Outnumbered 40 to one, they pursued the enemy army across the mountainous Afghanistan terrain and, after a series of intense battles, captured the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. The bone-weary American soldiers were welcomed as liberators as they rode into the city. Then the action took a wholly unexpected turn.

I found myself enraptured with this book and cried at times. This is a wonderful means of including public into the world of our soldiers with extended training and the knowledge to include the native peoples in a war.

A disappointing listen
Revisado: 02-03-22
I am definitely a James Patterson fan, but this story missed the mark. The background notices also distracted from the story which was already weak. The only reason I gave this any stars is because it is James Patterson’s work.

Many are familiar with the story of the much-married King Henry VIII of England and the celebrated reign of his daughter, Elizabeth I. But it is often forgotten that the life of the first Tudor queen, Elizabeth of York, Henry's mother and Elizabeth's grandmother, spanned one of England' s most dramatic and perilous periods. Now New York Times best-selling author and acclaimed historian Alison Weir presents the first modern biography of this extraordinary woman.

Lengthy and wordy
Revisado: 12-03-21
I love history but the way this book was presented made it tedious. The change in accent within a sentence made it hard to follow. The story of Elizabeth of York is fascinating, but not this way. Find another work to listen to.

Good history lesson
Revisado: 09-10-21
The issue of always blaming the Jews for all a counties ills is continuous over time. It’s amazing how some people will create their own truth to satisfy their own prejudices. The book itself was pretty good but the ending ruined the whole experience.

Historia
Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

A Whopper of a story
Revisado: 03-17-21
MacBeth in novel form has given me a much richer experience than I had with the original in play form. Perhaps if I had seen it produced I may have enjoyed that more. This novel though drew me into the story from the very first and held me until the last. We all know the general story of greed and corruption, but told this way the characters are much more alive. Thank you authors, Hartley and Henson for providing me a whopping good time!

Historia
Here is an extraordinary portrait of one of the most complicated - and misunderstood - figures among the Founding Fathers. In 1804, while serving as vice president, Aaron Burr fought a duel with his political nemesis, Alexander Hamilton, and killed him. In 1807, he was arrested, tried, and acquitted of treason. In 1833, Burr is newly married, an aging statesman considered a monster by many. But he is determined to tell his own story, and he chooses to confide in a young New York City journalist. Burr is the first novel in Gore Vidal's Narratives of Empire series.

An intriguing history
Revisado: 09-03-20
This a a most interesting history of the early days of our revolution. I never knew Aaron Burr was such an involved character of our beginnings. I always thought of him as a pompous character who shot Alexander Hamilton and faded away. This is such a packed book of American, British, Spanish and Western people that I will have to listen to it at least once more to get the full accounting of them each. Truly a wonderful Ability to immerse oneself into our beginnings! Oh... and nothing in politics has changed in all this time!

Historia
Greg Donahue’s The Minuteman, tells the story of one of Newark’s native sons; ex-prizefighter and longtime Zwillman enforcer Sidney Abramowitz, a.k.a. Nat Arno, who took over leadership of the Minutemen in 1934 and made it his personal business to put an end to what he saw as the Bund’s “anti-American” activities. For six years, Arno and his crew of vigilantes battled Newark’s Nazis at every turn. The Minuteman is a story of the ethics of violence in the face of fascism; a forgotten legacy that is as relevant now as it was nearly a hundred years ago.

Interesting US history
Revisado: 08-22-20
This was a look into the pre WWII history of anti Semitism in the US by a faction of German nationalists here. Why anyone in the US with all the freedoms we have would see fit to try to turn this country into Nazi Germany with all is hates and prejudices is beyond me. This account of how some Jews fought back against it is very insightful in spite of the violence that took place. Take a listen and learn!
