Historia
When children’s book author, Christy Bailey, receives a call from her aunt Betty to help out at her bookshop, she drops everything to go. Christy packs up her two cats—Milton and Pearl, the stars of her children's mystery books—and leaves busy Philadelphia for tiny Green Meadow, Indiana. The timing of the call is perfect, as Christy’s letch of an ex-boyfriend has just cleaned out her savings, leaving Christy with a pile of unpaid bills and a desire to start over. And what better place to do that than a charming small town in Middle America?

I Wanted To Love This
Revisado: 03-21-25
I love cats so I was excited to find another series that involved cats. However, I found the cats’ owner’s friend to be so annoying. Her part should have been inconsequential to the story. But I found her loud, interruptive, and pushy behavior to detract from the story and to be an irritant. I will not be able to listen to another book in this series.

Historia
Eccentric, reclusive Walter Rennert lies cold at the bottom of his stairs. At first glance the scene looks straightforward: a once-respected psychology professor done in by booze and a bad heart. But his daughter, Tatiana, insists that her father has been murdered, and she persuades Clay Edison to take a closer look at the grim facts of Rennert's life. What emerges is a history of scandal and violence and an experiment gone horribly wrong that ended in the brutal murder of a coed.

Tried To Like This Book
Revisado: 12-18-24
The story drug on. I was determined to listen to it in its entirety. The main character came across as sad and downtrodden. It may have just been the material, but the narrator sounded as if this was his first narration. No real inflection. I will not buy another book that involves this character.

Awful! NOT A Cozy Mystery
Revisado: 05-20-24
Note-I did not finish this book. I only made it to Chapter 8 before deciding I would not give any more of my time to it.
I chose this book on the recommendation of a cozy mystery writer that I adore. Apparently, this book qualifies as a cozy because the death involved was not graphic. It certainly does not meet my other criteria for a cozy, no severe profanity (F or GD) and no graphic sex scenes. This book definitely failed the test.
I feel that the writing was unpolished and very amateurish. In fact, I have read projects by amateurs that were much more entertaining than this. If this was the author’s first book and he improved with his future books, then he should edit this book and reissue it.
The narrator most assuredly made this book worse. His Southern accents were horrible. Additionally, he made the characters sound cartoonish.
Finally, as a person with 23 years in a 12-step program, I was insulted by the way alcoholism, sobriety and The Program were represented.

Historia
Many residents of South Lick, Indiana, claim the Outhouse Race, in which competitors push old-timey outhouse replicas on wheels at the annual Abe Martin Festival on Memorial Day, is the best thing since indoor plumbing. Just because country store and restaurant owner Robbie Jordan has too much to do managing her new deep fryer as well as an old lover reappearing, she's not going to miss out on the fun. Plus, it's good for business. But when a dead body and a cast-iron skillet tumble out of the Pans 'N Pancakes outhouse entry on the race route, it seems someone is trying to frame Robbie.

As A Christian, I Was Offended
Revisado: 05-06-24
I thought the book sounded like fun so I got it. My first disappointment was with the narrator. I’d heard her voice and was good with it. Then I hear that the main character is 29. The narrator sounds as if she is twice that old. There’s nothing wrong with being sixty, I am myself. But I think it a bad choice for the book.
My biggest problem was with the derisive comments made about Christians, prayer and The Church. A cozy mystery is not the forum for such discussions.
I will not listen to another of Ms. Day’s books.

Too Many Social Issues
Revisado: 06-21-23
I wish I had read the reviews before I bought the book. I am well aware of the societal ills plaguing this world. I listen to cozy mystery audiobooks to escape reality for a while. I do not feel that this is the proper platform to address socio/political issues. I will not listen to this author again.

Language, Adult Content and Not A Mystery,
Revisado: 06-01-22
Shortly into the book, the killer is revealed. The remainder of the book is how they catch them. To me, that makes the book a thriller, not a mystery. I like a mystery so I can try to figure the killer myself. Additionally, the sex scenes were too detailed for my taste and I did not like the F-Bombs. Loved the narration. I will not be listening to any other books in the series.
