Historia
Petra Grady has known since adolescence that she has no talent for magic—and that’s never going to change. But as a sweeper first-class, she’s parlayed her rare ability to handle dross—the damaging, magical waste generated by her more talented kin’s spellwork—into a decent life working at the mages’ university. Except Grady’s relatively predictable life is about to be upended.

Could have been a 5 star...
Revisado: 05-29-24
I really enjoy Kim Harrison's writing. This new series is good, I really like the premis behind the new magic system and how it interacts with the world. I do get hints of Rachel, but probably because of Marguerite Gavin's voice. The story could have gotten a 5 star from me, but in a world where magic has been used for thousands of years (even in secret) it should be used for more than just holding people down and heating/chilling their coffee. In addition, "Weavers" are supposed to weave shadow and light, but Petra doesn't seem to do anything with the light at all other than slag a lode stone... why?

Another Great Entry
Revisado: 05-13-24
I love this series and this is another great entry! Going back and forth between worlds with the interplay of different gods is a cool way to write a series. You've got character-building, magic progression, and world-building all bundled together in a nice package. My one gripe with this book was that it felt too short. I'm listening along, I get to the point of returning to Earth and thinking great first half of the book, and then BAM... end of the book. Granted, I can't wait for the next book in the series, but I was so into it I wanted more now!
FYI: I had already paid for and loved the first 4 books in this series, would have purchased this book anyway, and this is my honest review. However, to be transparent, I was given a free credit for this book. (Thank you, Aaron Renfroe!)

Historia
As a particle physicist, William Jenkins is as unsuited to survival on an alien world as any normal 30-something post-doc could be. Thankfully, he’s not alone. With an AI, magic, scientific curiosity, and, most improbably, a deity on his side, Will must come to terms with his new reality before otherworldly terrors forever extinguish the light of hope on this new world.

Historia
On Karell, you are either blessed by the gods, granted a unique power and the ability to gain experience and levels, or you are forgotten. Micah Silver was a boy picked for greatness. Chosen by the gods to bear a mythic power, he longed to take his place amongst the heroes and legends he grew up reading about. Unfortunately, his primary blessing only allows him to travel into the past by sacrificing his class, wealth, and levels - a psychological burden that Micah is reluctant to shoulder. But, even if Micah is unwilling, fate has a way of forcing you to face your destiny.

Digby Graves is done running. He wants to make good on his declaration of war, which means he’s going to need allies and a land to call his own. With an opportunist turned kingpin, an army of fanatics, and a hive full of monsters standing in his way, the stakes have never been higher. It will take every spell and underhanded tactic in his arsenal to carve out a victory.

Historia
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Not bad, but far from great...
Revisado: 11-21-19
I don’t write a lot of reviews, but by the end of the book I was sighing out loud every time the narrator said “H-U-D” instead of “hud”. The story wasn’t bad, but there are many other LitRPG stories that are better at drawing the reader into the plot. I also felt that the dungeon dive was way too short, couple rooms and done...might be why the book was a little short. On the positive side, I did like the character progression and magic system.

Historia
It has been two years since the Shift - when most technology stopped working, and the laws of physics changed. Humanity has been brought to its knees. Like other survivors, Noah Henson has heard rumors of the Aelves. Among other guesses, predatory aliens seem as good as any other theory for what caused the Shift. But for Noah, everything else takes second place to survival, sometimes even self-respect... or any sort of decency. Lawless, post-apocalypse America had forced Noah to make many difficult decisions, and he has never seemed to choose correctly.

Meet Threadbare. He is 12 inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero. Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her. Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies …
