Historia
Even in the fast and loose world of the Trump White House, the idea that a couple thousand disorganized protestors storming the U.S. Capitol might actually prevent a presidential succession was farfetched. Yet perfectly legal ways of overturning election results actually do exist, and they would allow a political party to install its own candidate in place of the true winner.

Major wake-up call for our threatened democracy
Revisado: 03-16-24
Clear, though complicated, description of the vulnerabilities in our election procedures: a must-read. Takes some careful study.

Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Marvelous Book
Revisado: 11-08-22
This was a very well done book. What I had learned in school about Grant was pretty negative, emphasizing his drinking, the enormous carnage of his battles, and the corruption during his presidency. This account balances the record and restores him to someone I now see, along with Lincoln, as one of our greatest heros.
The reading was particularly well done. One of the best.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Amazing and powerful story.
Revisado: 03-05-20
This book was a big surprise to me. I expected a light and funny comedian's memoir. What I got was a powerful story of race, class, and personal survival. It was amazing, inspiring, and yes, also funny.

A very courageous book
Revisado: 08-16-17
It took a lot of courage for a former Muslim to write such a book. The clarity of thought and fairness of presentation really stand out. It is a very moving account of Dr. Rizvi's personal spiritual journey.
