Bad science. Bad characters.

No surprises in the plot line except those that come from bad science, bad personal performance by the characters while supposedly engaged in what they are supposed to be good at. Tried but just couldn't finish the story.

The main character was a moron. Any time a bit of intelligence was required, he chose to throw a hissy fit and do something counterproductive.

Awful story about a mass murdering slaver.

performance good. Unfortunately, the story is about a guy who turns into the worst sort of mass murdering slavery who gets laid a lot.

I just can't bear listening to lists of numbers and ranks. if I wanted to deal with that I'd go play a game rather than listen to some one else's game.

Snarky laugh out loud dialog

The story itself is pretty good but it is the conversation between the characters that make the book shine. Amanda Ronconi is particularly good at character voicing and Davis does well also.

the basic premise had promise and to a fair extent that promise was met. However, the idea that readers would find reading of extensive statistics as though the character or item in question were part of a role playing game may be flawed. I, for one, couldn't bear to complete the book when one too many such instances pushed me over the edge. Too bad. The performance was actually quite good.

The basic story is an interesting concept and the performance is quite good. The problem is a puzzling insistance on inclusion of extended stats. every chapter begins with a recitation of character stats. In one place the table of stats ran on uninterrupted for 15 minutes. I'm guessing that in the paper book this wouldn't be an issue. Normal people would just skip them. In an audible book this is not the case. This happens with every chapter. It wasn't so bad at first but after a while it just grinds on you. Also, for a hyper advanced AI the central character is a bit of a moron. In the end, the good parts of the story couldn't make up for the bad and I was unable to finish it.

bad science, preteen girl emotions

As an example of bad science, the story spends considerable time going through the steps of creating a habitate out of an asteroid. One step is to hollow out the rock, placing the dug out material on the asteroid's surface. The asteroid is spun up to provide 1g internally. Several steps later the material that was previously dug out of the interior and stored the surface is brought back in and used to landscape the interior. Unsaid was why the loose material is still lying on the surface of a wildly spinning asteroid. So the are a number of interesting topics being discussed but the manner in which the topic is handled is seriously flawed. The target audience appears to be 12 year old girls with an interest in space.

Abysmal science

Couldn't finish it due to terrible science. For example, a ship is 300,000 miles out in space and people are walking around in their shirtsleeves.
