Historia
Ivy Sylvan thought after losing her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend, that having no other option but to move in with her flunkee brother would be the cherry on top of her bad luck sundae, but after finding a dead body, she realized things can always get worse.

Light-hearted
Revisado: 03-21-25
This story was a nice break to some heavier dark romance I’ve been reading. It was light-hearted and fun, with easy world-building that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The narrator is also very good.

Historia
Charlie Hall has never found a lock she couldn’t pick, a book she couldn’t steal, or a bad decision she wouldn’t make. She's spent half her life working for gloamists, magicians who manipulate shadows to peer into locked rooms, strangle people in their beds, or worse. Gloamists guard their secrets greedily, creating an underground economy of grimoires. And to rob their fellow magicians, they need Charlie Hall.

I love this story
Revisado: 01-02-25
Take aways:
-Not a huge shift from her YA stories but enough that it is notably adult
-First half is a lot of family dynamic and world building; a little slow but it picks up
-I like the main character (Charlie) but found myself really interested in Vince, which surprised me
-a nice divorce from Folk of the Air; I think some people are giving it lower ratings because they expecting a similar theme
-I wish I’d known it was a duology; it left on a cliff hanger that I’ve been ruminating on for ages now

Historia
When her whole life collapsed, Rae still had books. Dying, she seizes a second chance at living: a magical bargain that lets her enter the world of her favorite fantasy series. She wakes in a castle on the edge of a hellish chasm, in a kingdom on the brink of war. Home to dangerous monsters, scheming courtiers and her favourite fictional character: the Once and Forever Emperor. He’s impossibly alluring, as only fiction can be. And in this fantasy world, she discovers she's not the heroine, but the villainess in the Emperor's tale.

Funny and compelling
Revisado: 12-14-24
I will say this: I wasn’t expecting the main character to have cancer. As someone who is recently in remission, some of story was hard—but it was also good. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone in my experience and some of the complex thoughts that come along with it. There were parts where I crying one moment and laughing the next. My only complaint is having to wait for the next part to come out!
