Again in concise terms, JH Pii sheds light on how even our casual use of social media can lead us to think or sometimes behave in certain ways.
A helpful compliment to Pii’s other informative works.
There are strong arguments here for the regulation and restraint of Big Tech.
Understanding and being mindful of what mechanisms are employed is a good first step and this audiobook helps greatly in that regard.
Well worth your time!

Here’s a fresh and fun twist on the usual suspects of Olympus from the perspective of a black sheep.

Devcalion never did fit in with those Olympic snobs. He couldn’t have cared less, though.

He preferred to spend his immortal lifetime studying the ways of the samurai and living by his sarcastic wit along with the help of his sentient blade Betrayer. (She steals the show)

Dev had been on the outside forever, so why are the Olympic elite out to enlist HIM on a quest to save the world?
What are they really up to?

This story stands on its own or serves as the prequel to The Blood Series trilogy:
Destroyer’s Blood, First Blood, Time For Blood

Great fun, you’ll enjoy thumbing your nose at the gods with Dev and Tray

It takes a skillful author such as Alice Wisler to take you to where you know you'll end up but also keep you engaged, satisfied and even surprised along the way. Gideon Miller left his Amish community 15 years ago. Now in his early 30s, living in another state, he has become famous back home in PA. Still resentful of his upbringing, he's become known as The Getaway Savior (a nickname he also resents) because he does whatever he can to help Amish teens who want to break free and become part of the 'English World' just as he did. Getting beyond his anger is the problem. It's the unlikely people in his new life who help him do just that and who also make this story so appealing. David Bosco's superb narration and portrayal of these characters adds even more.
KInd of a seasonal tale (fall/winter) but good for any time of year.
A light Christian theme but also full of universal truth.
Like comfort food on a cold winter's night, it may be just what you need.

I first found this story a couple years ago. Found it entertaining and very original. Replaying the audiobook reminded me of just how much fun this story was and how engaging a listen it can be. Some characters are exaggerated but that adds to the absurdity and the fun. Guaranteed to make any car trip seem a little shorter!

Some very dark themes

A wide collection of SciFi, macabre, paranormal short stories from author Danielle Ackley-McPhail. Most are dark to gritty including one taking place in a women's prison and another which might very well have been a continuation of that story. Others lighter but haunting still. A 'fateful' visit to the home of three sisters. A final gift from a dying grandmother. Some uplifting, such as Beloved, a very comforting bit of verse, perfect for reading at a funeral or memorial service. The title piece 'Transcendence' was also very good. Other brief poems are included here and there.
Jennifer Fournier narrates in a very accessible tone overall, no pretense, comfortable. But also adaptive, knowing when to kick in the elements as needed to raise intensity or squeeze an entire image from a single word. Very well done!

What made the experience of listening to Crude the most enjoyable?

Eddie's struggles, both internal and external, and the way he challenges them. How he adapts to situations far beyond what he imagined within his ability.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'd have to say Eddie. I believe the author wanted him to have few others if any to rely upon, forcing him to be resourceful and draw from within.

What does S.W. Salzman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A very focused performance

If you could take any character from Crude out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Frank of course. For an arsenic burger.

Any additional comments?

I'm not usually a fan of 'the world after' stories, but this one showed a good amount of humanity (where not expected) along with strength and a fight for survival.
