Historia
Lojong is the Tibetan Buddhist practice that involves working with short phrases (called "slogans") as a way of generating bodhichitta, the heart and mind of enlightened compassion. Though the practice is more than a millennium old, it has become popular in the West in only the last 20 years or so - and it has become very popular indeed because it's a practice that one can fit very well into an ordinary life, and because it works.

among the best lojong books
Revisado: 01-21-22
This is such a helpful, insightful and practical book on Lojong, all while being deeply heartfelt and beautiful. It's nice that the author/narrator has a calming but engaging voice. I recommend this to all of my spiritual, meditation friends and to most of the people close to me, it's a book for a lifetime.

Historia
Sylvia Boorstein—known by friends and colleagues as a "Jewish grandmother bodhisattva"—is highly skilled in making the universal wisdom of traditional Buddhist teachings available to all. Using delightful and deceptively powerful stories from everyday experiences, Boorstein demystifies spirituality, charts the path to happiness through the Buddha's basic teachings, and presents the means to develop a realistic course toward wisdom and compassion. This wonderfully engaging guide to Buddhism is full of humor, love, and memorable insights.

This is such a wonderful and practical book and still so inspiring. I especially love that Sylvia narrated. I’ve read many meditation and spiritual books about Buddhism and the dharma & many are wonderful but this is truly among the very best. Sylvia gives wonderful anecdotes, practical messages and leave the reader with a joyful and optimistic feeling;not 1 ounce of apprehension. I finished and wanted to continue being me (not another version of me, or me if I was a better meditator etc,,,) and then I wanted to sit for a quick meditation.

Historia
When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

So underwhelming
Revisado: 07-17-19
I was really misled by all of the four and five star reviews. I thought even though it seems schmaltzy from the beginning in rather slow that it must pick up and get exciting along the way, maybe something new will be delivered or a twist or turn that impressed other readers. But no, stayed very average. And maybe it’s just me about the narration of the male voices was like fingernails on a chalkboard. I have enjoyed other four and a five star review the books like an American marriage, where in the crawdads sing, Educated and the Life we Bury, to name a few. This just focused on the same concepts over and over again and became pedantic and just generally disappointed me. I’m still looking for a follow up to the bar I was raised by Cutting for Stone or Poisonwood Bible. If you’re looking for something pretty PG this might be for you.

I enjoyed this book SO much and did catch myself very emotional, but it was at times too much. Sometimes better to leave a bit for the reader to decide

just do it
Revisado: 10-07-18
If you want to get a break from the political toxicity and just laugh, treat yourself to this! I thought it would be hard to beat Tina Fey's book, or Sarah Silverman's (oh Jesus that was amazing on so many levels), but Amy outdid herself here. I had to pull over on a road trip, laughing out loud to myself till I had to figure out where I was on the map because I had missed my mapquest cue(s). Enjoy yourself.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Historia
Matthew is a normal 11-year-old boy living with his parents and little sister in Surrey. He's too old and sensible to have an imaginary friend really. Yet when Matthew's parents keep finding him talking and arguing with a strange presence whom Matthew calls Chocky, that's what they believe it must be…at first. But Chocky is oddly sinister, and keeps asking Matthew all sorts of complicated questions about the world and making him behave in unusual and erratic ways. Then Matthew suddenly does something heroic, well beyond his capabilities; the media become interested and the interest in Matthew widens.

unexpectedly fun and memorable
Revisado: 11-19-13
Would you listen to Chocky again? Why?
maybe, I hesitate because I don't have enough time for the 'next' book/podcast, etc, not bec of the book. It was superb!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I related best to the dad (though I'm a mom) & connected w/the worrying-mom but not surprisingly, loved best the main child character, Matthew.
What about Daniel Weyman’s performance did you like?
Daily listening on the way home from school was an unexpected treat for ME and my 10 year old too. I felt that the narrator was really excellent. I like to not notice a narrator, but ow I'll look for him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no
Any additional comments?
really a great book on so many levels, especially to be enjoyed by the young reader. But the bond that I enjoy w/my son after and during this 'read' is best of all. Its sticks w/you.
