Historia
Ten years ago, Izzy Stone's mother fatally shot her father while he slept. Devastated by her mother's apparent insanity, Izzy, now 17, refuses to visit her in prison. But her new foster parents, employees at the local museum, have enlisted Izzy's help in cataloguing items at a long-shuttered state asylum. There, amid piles of abandoned belongings, Izzy discovers a stack of unopened letters, a decades-old journal, and a window into her own past.

Well written and really good until it wasn’t. I wanted to read a “fiction” book to escape for a little. I needed a happy ending. What I got was thrown a bone that had no meat left on it. None of the villains of the story ever got their comeuppance!!! Not one. It would have been so easy to give Clara and Bruno their happily ever after, but no.

Historia
A traditional Regency romance, drawing room rather than bedroom. Nell Caldicott awaits the return of her violent sailor husband with trepidation, but for once her fears are not realised. Her husband’s ship, the Brig Minerva, has sunk off the Cornish coast. Nell is free, but her husband has left her with little money and many questions about his past. Gradually, as his secrets are laid bare, she realises she didn’t know her husband at all. Can she uncover the truth? And can she ever learn to trust a man with her heart again?

Ok
Revisado: 07-02-24
The story was ok, if not too drawn out. If I had to hear about her not being able to drink a cup of tea again I was going to scream. The heroine was very spoiled and didn’t seem to learn much from her all too brief a stint of being penniless.
But most niggling was the narrator. Her voice was far,far too old for the main character and I didn’t like how she voiced our hero at all. Get ready to hear her swallow saliva every 30 seconds. Obviously, we all do that, but I’ve never heard it so loud in an audible book before. And once you hear it the first time you’ll hear them all. :(

Narrator not a good fit
Revisado: 04-30-24
Liked the story. I don’t know how they do these things in the literary world, but whoever chose this author must be deaf. She was too old for the two main female characters. She can’t do male voices. Well, most women can’t, but this narrator is really bad at it. Her voicing of Peanut and George are comical. I trudged through because I liked the story.

The narrator
Revisado: 02-21-24
Good story, but for some reason the narrating of the male voices, mainly Briggs, is distracting, it’s so bad. Every line ends on an abrupt up turn. It’s laughable.

Save yourself!!!Bought this because Meryl Streep was narrating and I thought, no way would she attach herself to a stinker. I was wrong. Nearly 4hours into this and nothing has happened. Sooooo boring. Even MS’s reading of it is too slow and drags along. Why is she speaking so slow?!
