Historia
When the Jewish families of Berlin start disappearing in nightly raids, 21-year-old Jacob Kagan knows it’s only a matter of time before the trucks come for him. Along with his family and best friend, he flees the country he’s always called home to find shelter in a Dutch refugee camp. Before long, the Netherlands falls to the Nazi war machine - Jacob’s new home is transformed into a transit camp with weekly trains bound for the horrors of the Eastern concentration camps.

Unlistenable!!
Revisado: 06-22-24
Could not get into the story due to the extremely poor reading. I did not know that Germans had South London accents. Don’t waste your time or money on this.

Good Story Poor Narration Poor Accuracy
Revisado: 03-21-23
A good story can be ruined by little things. For example, so many mispronunciations: Kibbutz (kibbets). Tefillen (teflin), haftorah -(can't even sound out what was said, and many others. Also, you cannot see the George Washington Bridge from Amsterdam Avenue. New York has a subway not an underground. Finally, nylon was invented in 1940--it is unlikely that there was nylon fishing line in Yugoslavia prior to or during that year; the transistor was invented in 1947 and put into commercial use by ATT in the mid-50's and finally there were no plastic sheets in Yugoslavia in 1940. These are the kinds of things that can be so distracting to a story that it takes you out of the mood the author is trying to set. A mistake here and there is acceptable, but these are blatant errors which it is hard to understand why they were not edited and/or corrected.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Wonderful

A perfect listen. Great story, great characters, great narration. I am not sure how anyone who reads this cannot cheer
for Kya, the Marsh Girl. The author's description and the narrator's presentation took my into the lagoons and forests. One of my absolute favorite books. This will be reread in years to come.

Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

Dated and scientifically incorrect.
Revisado: 06-10-19
First of all I have enjoyed Michael Crichton's work such as Timeline, the Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park..etc. I picked this book without reading reviews or realizing that Mr. Crichton was a climate change critic (and that this book is so anti climate change). For a man of science he is woefully out of step. Also, the terminology in book "global warming" is an almost unrecognizable term. The book, at the very least should be updated to use the term "climate change." I also recognize that this book is almost 15 years old and hopefully Crichton has move his position. As a piece of "literature" it was all over the place, hard to follow, confusing characters and an inconsistent story. It was hard to follow and too much of an effort to get through. Disappointing, boorish, scientifically out of date and I cannot recommend it.
