Historia
Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.

Sword Audio Version
Revisado: 11-20-23
I just finished listening to the audio version of this book, just to see how it was handled. The reader Scott Brick did ok, but he forgot to remember that this characters were not that old, and as one critique on his reading said, he kept the voices a little too posh. First of all, trying to do English accents was wrong because he, Scott, is not English. The accents were also inconsistent. I think Hendel was supposed to sound Scottish. Panamon, Australian. That's okay, but Scott Brick didn't do them well and he couldn't keep them consistent throughout. He definitely had Shea's voice too low and too old. Anyone who has read Sword of Shannara should note that Dayel, the youngest of the group is said to be 15, and Shea is only a few years older, which puts him and Flick between 17 and 20. I lean more towards 19-20, and Menion about the same age, maybe a year older. Balinor is 35. That is mentioned, and Durin is about the same age. Also, Scott Brick failed to keep inflection consistent. In places where it should be tense and suspenseful, his reading tends to fall flat. When it is supposed to be soft, it's too harsh. Not all the way through, of course. In most of the instances, he gets the inflection close if not right. But what really bugged me throughout the entire audio was Scott Brick's inability to pronounce Shannara correctly, and I know how all the names are supposed to be pronounced because that is one of the things I asked Terry Brooks so long ago. It was the only name he didn't get right! This audio is much better than ones I have heard before where the reader is strictly monotone. I give Scott Brick a B for his reading. And if I sound a little too critical, well, this is my favorite book.

Historical Mystery
Revisado: 06-21-22
Not my type of book. Well written and author knows about the Era in which the story is set. There is definitely suspense to hold a reader. I'm sure those who read historical fiction would find the book enjoyable.
