Historia
The Critique of Pure Reason is a work that examines the faculty of reason and the qualities inherent in human thought. Before this time the influence of the knower on that which was sought to be known was not considered in a thorough and developed manner. Kant attempted with this critique to establish a limit to the knowable based on the nature of human cognition. His work was an attempt to address the failings in philosophy and metaphysics and provide a solid foundation for the proper use of reason to expand knowledge.

Historia
Rene Descartes is often described as the first modern philosopher, but much of the content of his Meditations on First Philosophy can be found in the medieval period that had already existed for more than a thousand years. Does God exist? If so, what is his nature? Is the human soul immortal? How does it differ from the body? What role do sense experience and pure reason play in knowing?

Half-assed skepticism
Revisado: 08-02-18
Descartes, while revolutionary in thought and philosophical exercise continually shows inconsistency in the things at which he exercises skepticism. Presupposes God, the soul, and self existence without any sufficient rationality, and builds his ontology on these things.
Descartes is increasingly more irrelevant in modern philosophy where the more recent great minds recognize the baseless assumptions of duality and are willing to only make the bare minimum of assumptions about reality. Descartes is likely a victim of the times, which is sad.

The year is 3030. For the past 300 years, since the Star League collapse and the rise of the Five Successor States, these mortal enemies have fought over space, land, and politics. But a new threat looms just outside the Inner Sphere. The descendants of an old Star League general, the Clans, bred to be the best military force humanity has ever seen, have come to take what they believe is rightfully theirs.

Battletech
Revisado: 05-01-18
if you know anything about battletech it's kinda like game of thrones in space and not as intense or as well-written. that's not to say it isn't good. the audio book is amazing in that it includes sounds and atmospheric enhancements that really enrich the story.

at least, that's what it should have been titled. fascinating, deep, and not bogged down by mathematical formulae. Carroll's Kermit the Frog voice is always soothing and does well in aiding in the absorption of information.

Originally written for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and '30s, H. P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmic terror that are as powerful today as they were when first published. This tome brings together all of Lovecraft's harrowing stories, including the complete Cthulhu Mythos cycle, just the way they were when first released.

Timeless and evocative...
Revisado: 03-18-16
I'm stunned at how deeply profound and ahead of his time this man from the the early 20th century was. I can only conjecture that some of the personas from within his writing share a visceral connection to him, and I ponder at what deep impact he had on science fiction and horror.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....
