Historia
Tekla, son of an ancient shaman, loses Ka Li when she is torn from his life by a brutal tribe of Denisovans in a Late Pleistocene kidnapping. Ka Li escapes but is unarmed and forced to flee across the Bering land bridge where she becomes hopelessly lost in the endless tracts of North America. Only Tekla cares enough to search for her over the years. As Ka Li survives fierce predators and scarce resources, she leaves behind a series of signal cairns to help Tekla find her.

Nonstarter
Revisado: 12-27-22
Denisovans - evil and violent recent newcomers out of Africa. Something along those lines. No thanks.
I loved the idea of linking modern and characters together in a mystery through paleontology. A Gift of Time audiobook by the same author was fantastic, not sure what happened here. Certainly not worthy of the narrator’s performance.

Historia
New York Times best-selling author and ultramarathoning legend Dean Karnazes has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits, from running in the shoe-melting heat of Death Valley to the lung-freezing cold of the South Pole. He’s raced and competed across the globe and once ran 50 marathons, in 50 states, in 50 consecutive days.

Excellent
Revisado: 08-10-22
I know I will enjoy a book by Dean Karnazes, his compassion for people and love of running pretty much guarantee it. His writing style expands in A Runner’s High - for one example, the way he presented his doubts about his relationship with his son in a chapter hooked and surprised me.
The narrator was a pretty close match, I think it really helps for the narrator to come across like Dean and this one gets close.
Definitely a great listen and I hope Dean writes another soon.

Historia
Growing up in Santa Monica, California, Julie Weiss would do almost anything for love. She drank, she quit school, she stole - and she ended up a mother in her teens. Years later, overweight and depressed, she put one foot in front of another and found a new road beckoning. In 2012-13, Julie - aka the Marathon Goddess - ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks.

I sided with the old Italian guy and yet...
Revisado: 03-31-21
...I bought this audiobook.
The first half is the author’s backstory. I thought it was essential for the second half account of the 52 in 52.
So many things to admire in the year long accomplishment - 2 examples are keeping the streak alive despite 3 weeks surgery recovery and the way she aces in Boston learning from the SOTM2 old Italian guy episode.
I really appreciated her narration, to listen to the story delivered in her intended tones and inflections.
She is as good of a daughter as she is a marathoner and that made the story.
