Historia
The Puritan poet John Milton is most famous for his massive theological epic Paradise Lost. He was also known as perhaps the greatest genius of the English Renaissance possibly the best-educated man of his day and also a major theorist of classical learning for Christians. The man who wrote the seminal words 'The end then of Learning is to repair the ruines of our first Parents by regaining to know God aright, and out of that knowledge to love him, to imitate him, to be like him....' (Of Education, 1644) argues across all his voluminous writings that the purpose of education is soul work for virtue as opposed to information gathering for profit. In this book, Milton scholar Professor Grant Horner from The Master's College examines the poet's powerful vision of a Christian and classical education.

Loved this audiobook! Made me want to drive back into Milton. Yes, that same Milton whom I had previously visited without much pleasure. I needed this audiobook. It may even be interesting if you had never read and never plan on reading Milton. His thoughts on education presented here are fascinating. Check it out.

Historia
A New Year challenge goes horribly wrong for one noble knight of the Round Table. King Arthur loved Christmas and New Year - it was an excellent excuse for feasting, exchanging gifts and a time for general good fellowship among the knights at Camelot. And he wouldn't stop feasting until some marvellous adventure had befallen either him or one of his companions. One year, there was an adventure to top the lot. An enormous knight rides into the hall dressed in green. Everything is green. His hair and beard are green. Even his horse is green.

This was not super helpful. It might have made me appreciate Homer less if I had trusted the author. If you must read this one, put it at the bottom of your reading list.

Historia
Margot and James are broken up—for good this time. James made sure of it when he dropped the bomb on Margot: that he doesn’t want kids, ever. Then, on the biggest morning of his life, James—an ambitious lawyer at a high-powered firm—wakes up pregnant. He realizes with dread that he is part of a recent epidemic of men suddenly and inexplicably becoming pregnant. His condition obvious to the higher-ups, James is denied the promotion he was expecting, sending him reeling.

My mother has a baby once.
Revisado: 05-30-22
Man these “pro-life” puritans get my blood really boiling. My mother had a baby once and look what’s happened. She didn’t have the autonomy to kill me when I was making her puke her guts out every morning for three weeks. It could have been so easy for her. They didn’t understand in those days that a person is free to kill anything which is under their care and protection. We all understand this intuitively when it comes to dogs and cats, why can’t these hypocrites understand that one has the inalienable right to dismember their unborn baby just like that do with their annoying and expensive golden retriever puppy. It doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s not against the law. Yet!

Historia
About 2,500 years ago, Plato wrote a set of dialogues that depict Socrates in conversation. The way Socrates asks questions, and the reasons why, amount to a whole way of thinking. This is the Socratic method - one of humanity’s great achievements. More than a technique, the method is an ethic of patience, inquiry, humility, and doubt. It is an aid to better thinking, and a remedy for bad habits of mind, whether in law, politics, the classroom, or tackling life’s big questions at the kitchen table.

A stoic’s eye view of Socrates
Revisado: 02-11-22
This has some helpful content on the Socratic Method. There was a strange advertisement for stoicism and skepticism thrown in there that was a couple of chapters long, The author did bring it back to the Socratic Method eventually, but the rabbit trail did nothing but detract from the rest of the book.

Revisado: 11-22-21
The vitriol slung around, smearing white people as if they are a homogenous group feels really irresponsible and dangerous. We don’t need more division. You don’t solve racism with more racism. Stop it. This is evil.

Historia
Faust is one of the pillars of Western literature. This classic drama presents the story of the scholar Faust, tempted into a contract with the Devil in return for a life of sensuality and power. Enjoyment rules, until Faust’s emotions are stirred by a meeting with Gretchen, and the tragic outcome brings Part 1 to an end. Part 2, written much later in Goethe’s life, places his eponymous hero in a variety of unexpected circumstances, causing him to reflect on humanity and its attitudes to life and death.

This is the place to start. What a production!
Use this audiobook to give yourself a handle in the overarching story and then go on for an unabridged edition. This translation is in matter and rhyme in updated, yet magisterial language by some dude named John R. Williams. This was produced by the guy who started Ukemi audiobooks, the very best producer of audiobooks around. This should be your first stop for Fausty goodness.
