DND Because Second Person POV threw me off to much
Revisado: 03-03-25
The change to second person POV writing for at least the first handful of chapters made it tough for me to get into it. it's something like every other chapter, which made it even harder to get used to.

Historia
Bruno Bettelheim was one of the great child psychologists of the twentieth century and perhaps none of his books has been more influential than this revelatory study of fairy tales and their universal importance in understanding childhood development. Analyzing a wide range of traditional stories, Bettelheim shows how the fantastical, sometimes cruel, but always deeply significant narrative strands of the classic fairy tales can aid in our greatest human task, that of finding meaning for one's life.

Freudian Fairy Tales
Revisado: 09-11-24
A very odd and Freudian take on Brothers Grimm and some variations. I knew Freud was horny but my gosh. In nearly every chapter of this book there some stretch of a justification for everything relating back to an unconscious oedipal desire etc etc

An epilogue of a book
Revisado: 08-02-24
You can really tell this was written far after the original series ended. The whole book is a fetch quest that has little to no impact on the wider story. There is some lore that's interesting, but otherwise this is a skippable second end to the series.

Read 1.5 times, didn't care the whole time. Great narration though.
Revisado: 05-14-24
read this years ago and didn't care for story or characters, it was too political for my tastes at the time so I've tried again to get into it. I still don't care and will not be finishing.
it's a full cast that doesn't speak all the characters lines, which is weird. The narrator takes many of the characters lines for himself

Historia
First published by H. G. Wells in 1898, The War of the Worlds is the granddaddy of all alien invasion stories. The novel begins ominously, as the lone voice of a narrator intones, "No one would have believed in the last years of the 19th century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's."

In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

DNF cuz I just couldn't follow the story
Revisado: 03-09-23
Normally I like King's writing but this was all over the place. the jumping around in time wasn't clear at first so I was very confused when things were taking place and it was too vague with the setting and characters.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Monotone narrator killed the book for me
Revisado: 01-03-23
This was my first Sanderson book. I've heard such great things about his and his writing that I really wanted to like this book. But after about a third of the book I had to give it up. I don't expect different voices for all a book's characters, but I do expect more than what Kramer gave. Not once in my 200ish book Audible library have I had a more boring narrator than what Kramer did with this book. Sanderson's writing is what kept me reading and what has given this review a 3 star because the narration is 1 star for sure

Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Great Story, Moderate Narration
Revisado: 12-05-20
There's no question this is a fantastic book. The narrator left me wanting. His voice was near monotone the whole time, Danny's voice was the same as Jack, which was the same as Wendy and so on. I get that it was probably an active choice, and it definitely worked at times. But even a little differentiation would have been nice.
Oh, and the yelling, which there is a lot of, is this weird whisper yell that got old reeeeeal fast.
