Historia
Jack Shade has a secret, and this hidden part of his past sends him on a journey through time and space and a great number of metaphysical doorways. From the cozy poker table in the 11th-floor apartment of the Hôtel de Rêve Noire to the ethereal Forest of Souls to the faded houses along the Gold River, Jack flows in and out of this world. Even when his own duplicate hires him to kill himself, Jack is mercury in motion. The Fissure King collects the four existing Jack Shades novellas and shows us Jack's final trick - one last story that finally reveals Jack's true nature.

Great Worldbuilding
Revisado: 04-19-22
I really liked this book. The premis was very original and believable. The narrator did a very good job, especially conxidering the grittiness of the stories. Jack is a wonderfully flawed individual which makes him so very human. I would recommend this group of novellas to anyone.

In this thrilling supernatural mystery, Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula must join forces to banish a terrible enemy. Sherlock Holmes is dead. His body lies in a solitary grave on the Sussex Downs, England. But Dr. Watson survives and is now given permission to release tales in Sherlock’s “classified dossier”, those cases that are, dear listener, unbelievable - for their subject matter is of the most outré and grotesque nature.

Loved this book, narration was great. Thankful that Holmes wss given a less high pitched voice. I hope future novels will give Watson less doubts and more confidence in himt. Overall a great listen. Also really liked Count Dracula and Mina.

Excellent
Revisado: 11-13-21
Loved this book, reminded me of another acerbic wit, Alexia Tarrabotti. Though I am late to this series, I look forward to listening to Angele Masters expertly narrate Deanna Raybourns, continuation of Veronicas adventures with Stoker. I am a horticulturist and entomologist by education and a naturalist by lifelong hobby. This narrative appeals to all of those natures as well as a cracking good story.

Narrator is horrible.
Revisado: 07-13-20
I have loved this series, but this narrator makes listening almost unbearable. No change in tone or inflection between characters. Almost as if he was being forced to read aloud in a classroom. I purchased the next book in the series, hoping that the narrator would have improved. I could not get past the first chapter. I have exchanged it for a credit. Either bring back Napoleon. Or get someone who actually knows how to properly narrate rather than read by rote.

Historia
My name is Peter Grant, and I am a keeper of the secret flame - whatever that is. Truth be told, there's a lot I still don't know. My superior Nightingale, previously the last of England's wizardly governmental force, is trying to teach me proper schooling for a magician's apprentice. But even he doesn't have all the answers. Mostly I'm just a constable sworn to enforce the Queen’s Peace, with the occasional help from some unusual friends and a well-placed fire blast.

The surprise ending did sort of come as a shock, but listening again I was aware of the signs. As always this series continues to be unique, funny, serious and above all entertaining. Kobna Holbrook Smith is an outstanding narrator, I wish he could be used in other crime fiction, his range of accents and character definition is beyond compare.

Always a pleasure
Revisado: 06-02-19
The introduction of Lavender and Woods is interesting. I'm addition there is little of interest out there on the Bow Street Runners. I'm addition the book broached several topics, anti Catholic sentiment in England at the timr, the sheer squalor and poverty of the 99% of London, and of course the class system. An excellent pre Victorian novel.

Another great story from Tyler Dilts
Revisado: 02-14-17
Would you listen to Come Twilight again? Why?
I probably would not. Tyler is a great author but not a good narrator.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It is a toss up between Danny and Jen. They both bring unique perspective to the story, and Jen keeps Danny in line (sometimes)
Did Tyler Dilts do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
He did a bad job. Without the he said he said it would be impossible to differ between characters.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
All of Tyler's books make me both laugh and cry. However his inability to give each character detracted from that..
Any additional comments?
Please continue the series, but please bring back either of the other narrators.

Historia
For years Leo Waterman eked out a meager living as a PI in Seattle. He survived run-ins with murderers, drug dealers, and jealous wives, but when Rebecca, the love of his life, dumped him to marry someone else…that was a different story. After Leo’s trust fund finally kicks in, he takes his broken heart and slips gratefully into retirement — until the day he learns that Rebecca has vanished and no one, not even her overbearing mother, can locate her. Together with his motley crew of homeless drunks and reprobates, Leo sets out to find Rebecca, following her twisted trail from the rain-swept streets of Seattle to the murky depths of the great North Woods. The stink of it all emanates from none other than Rebecca’s new husband, whose lies cast Leo into the path of a ruthless gang that will stop at nothing — not even murder — to protect what’s theirs.

The cathedral town of Lafferton seems idyllic, but in many ways it is just like any other place. As part of the same rapidly changing world, it shares the same hopes and fears, and the same kinds of crime, as any number of towns up and down the land. When one day DC Simon Serrailler is called in by Lafferton's new Chief Constable, Kieron Bright, he is met by four plainclothes officers. He is asked to take the lead role in a complex, potentially dangerous undercover operation and must leave town immediately.

The best in an amazing series.
Revisado: 03-13-15
What did you love best about The Soul of Discretion?
This book as with all of the ones in the series covers controversial topics, especially this one. I love the way Hill weaves story lines together. Even though these books are about Simon the DCS, they are also about his family, their lives including both good and bad happenings. In this particular book in the series many things come together, yet still leave much more to tell. It was by far the most intense of the series covering some very gruesome yet timely topics. I was enthralled and unable to set the book aside.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Simon closely followed by his sister Cat. They are so real and human. I like Simon because of his intensity, though I sometimes want to slap him. He is well balanced by Cat though his twin (triplet?), they could not be more different in many ways. They seem to complete and complement each other at the same time.
Have you listened to any of Steven Pacey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to all the books in this series, all narrated by Mr. Pacer. He is one of the best! I could listen to him all day. His ability to change character, his timing, his fluidity with the stories is amazing
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to this book over 2 days, but given the opportunity I would have done in one sitting. It is that good and very interesting.
