Excellent book with a lot of twists

Very good fun read. I didn’t like the narrrator at first (hard to compare anyone to Michael Kramer) but he grew on me a lot.

This is just a catalogue of characters have philosophical conversations.
Revisado: 05-10-24
I want to like this book. Seeing origins and backstory’s for so many iconic characters was really fun. Learning what makes some of them the way they were and seeing how those relationships began is wonderful. But too much of this book is just two people sitting around talking. It’s very well written and the tone of the characters is still so distinctly there’s, but there is so little action. Even the ending sort of happens “off screen” and you just get told about it. I’m still intrigued with how this will end and connect but my god this was hard to make it through. Please turn the action dial up another click for the next one.

Historia
Forge of Darkness takes listeners to Kurald Galain, the warren of Darkness, and tells of a realm whose fate plays a crucial role in the fall of the Malazan Empire and surrounds one of the Malazan world’s most fascinating and powerful characters, Anomander Rake. It’s a conflicted time in Kurald Galain, where Mother Dark reigns above the Tiste people. But this ancient land was once home to many a power...and even death is not quite eternal. The commoners’ great hero, Vatha Urusander, longs for ascendency and Mother Dark’s hand in marriage, but she has taken another Consort, Lord Draconus.

Some of Eriksons finest, mispronounciation are jarring
Revisado: 02-08-24
Thoroughly enjoyed this story, some of Eriksons best writing I think and a lot of fun to see the origins of some of this universes greatest characters. It took me a bit to get used to yet another story teller for the Malazan world but by the end I was very much enjoying his pacing, and inflections on the story. All of the characters are some flavor of British, Irish or Scottish is seems which is different but I still wish there was more variance. Though it’s better than Page making everyone some kind of Indian. The part that bothered me enough so I can’t give the performance higher than a 3 was a few key mispronounciations, namely Tiste and Rake. At this point it shouldn’t take much digging to find the established ways to say these very important names.
Overall still very enjoyable though. Looking forward to the others

Historia
The intrepid necromancers Bauchelain and Korbal Broach—scourges of civilization, raisers of the dead, reapers of the souls of the living, devourers of hope, betrayers of faith, slayers of the innocent and modest personifications of evil—have a lot to answer for and answer they will, but first they must lie, murder and cheat their way through three more escapades in some of the harsher fringes, deprived wastelands and impoverished communities of the Malazan Empire. Much to the shame of their long-suffering general factotum, Emancipor Reese...

Big fan of the world and the characters and too much of this is too wildly different. Mostly Crackd pot trail. No familiar characters, very different writing style, and just feels too different for me to want to finish it
