Repetitive and non-fluid
Revisado: 02-10-25
I'm so disappointed in myself for buying this book. With all health books, you expect a level of repetition, but it really sounds like this book was created by chat GPT and the protocol does not know how to edit itself. These are my criticisms:
1. The book is circular in its concepts, and those concepts don't change. On chapter one they tell you about burning fat faster, but then slow down, because you want to keep consistent. This is the same message in chapter 2 through 9 as well.... Until you are told "congratulations!! you've reached your goals", and then it goes off again in the same track.
2. The book context does not make sense. In one paragraph it will tell you that you should be ready to burn fat fast for that special event, in the very next paragraph it tells you to list your reasons for losing weight (didn't we just assume the reasons on the first paragraph?).
3. All the information seems to be regurgitated by the internet. There are no specific plans, no specific workouts, except the book will tell you that the "Rapid Results Program" have these items... maybe in a different edition?
I'm sure I can be more critical If I was not caught off guard. Unfortunately, I was not looking to review this short book. Regardless, I refuse to go over it again to make sure I caught all the issues because, while some of the information may have been relevant, it was not modern or specific enough to be useful.
What? eat less and workout?? Why didn't I think of that?
Intermittent fasting? Yes, I heard it before, Are there any specifics of the diet? (not in this book)
HIIT? I've also heard it before. Are there any specific workouts? (none that I saw).
These are my additional observations:
1. Stephanie J. Carpenter sounds like she moonlights for the speechify AI that reads my books. She may not be an actual AI, but you will have to convince me since she is monotone, and she read out the table of contents. I have never seen that done on any audible editions. It's as if someone put this PDF through an AI dictation program.
2. When I researched the author, I found that he had published a similar book only three months earlier. Given the speed of publishing and editing, I was no longer surprised that the book didn't have any information I could not find on google by searching for fitness.
3. The book does not quote any sources. I guess all the information came straight from the author.
4. I was initially sold by the awesome reviews (24 x 5-star reviews, none that are 4-star or less). Turns out that all the people that rated this book 5 stars loved it so much they only gave stars but no narrative for this glowing piece of literature.
I rarely leave reviews, much less bad ones, but I feel that this book would not really help out anyone in any context. Maybe it will help the author make money, but not much else.

I definitely linked it a lot more than I thought I would. the topic speaks for itself how what is consciousness and where is it?

Overall great story.
Revisado: 03-31-23
Great story and good advice. As a retired military officer, I can see how this guy ruffled some feathers. I would also learn from his admited mistakes, and that is to work with your peers better.
I think I've been spoiled by Audible. I almost expect a great orator every time I listen to a book. This audiobook was read by the author, and that almost made me lose out on the great message being communicated.

some good stuff in here but not all of it
Revisado: 07-14-21
I listened and agreed with most of what the author put down..... then she started quoting the china study for the main strategy aound the middle of the book, and that completely turned me off as the study has heen debunked for a while now.
Beyond that, I'm not sure if I liked the writting (or should I say narrating) style. She tries to make the book entertaining by using slang words and hip phrases. I think she manages to make her work relevant and entertaining, but expect f'bombs at every chapter. Definitely not a literary masperpiece.

I'm sorry, not for me
Revisado: 04-23-20
I was really hoping to like the book. I'm a fan of fantasy and Lit RPG. I got nearly through half of it, fell asleep, then woke up towards the end.
I had an issue with character development. I like my characters to go through a crucible, then come out on top in the end. I felt this book had no character development at all. The protagonist wakes up after doing nothing in life, except for watching YouTube videos and going to medieval fairs (which helps him in his quest to build guns in a new world?), to be endowed with supernatural powers beyond anyone else that allow him to beat each challenge he faces easily. In the mean time, he flirts like he is in high school (and it works?!?!). I thought this book was meant for teenagers until the threesome scene towards the end of the book (about the time when I woke up).
I don't like giving bad reviews, and certainly hate writing them, but I did not get much out of the book.

Historia
The study of sexual physiology has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.
Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country", devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

not stuffy and well documented
Revisado: 02-11-19
by virtue of the subject, I expected either a book that would not take the subject matter seriously, or one that was stuffy. I believe the author managed to ensure neither happened and turned out a piece of worked that was very educational yet entertaining

Parenting advice isn't hard to find. There are thousands of books on the subject, as well as a multitude of websites. Much has also been written on the science of child development. What's been lacking, however, are sources of reliable advice that bring together the scientific research and its real-world applications.

Jennette was not born fat. But, by fifth grade, her response to a school questionnaire asking What would you change about your appearance? was "I would be thinner.” Sound familiar? the narrator could have been a lot more lively
Revisado: 06-04-18
not sure if I was that interested in the story, especially when the author mentioned she was not going to talk about her methods.
As I've went through the book though, I decided to listen through based on the very entertaining style of the author. Unfortunately, I did not feel the narrator put as much emphasis on the content as was necessary to make a great audio book. I think it may have been better had I read it myself.
