Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Historia
In The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction, inserting her inimitable voice into an enthralling story of love, adventure and discovery. Spanning much of the 18th and 19th centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker - a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia.

18 HOURS AREN’T ENOUGH
Revisado: 06-11-20
This book is long but immediately after starting it, I knew this was going to be a great adventure.
The story is a grand sweep through the 19th century.
I could not get enough of the heroine, I wanted her to be my best friend forever.
The audio performance was perfection.
I may very well listen to this all over again.

Historia
In 1964 Kathy McKeon was just 19 years old and newly arrived from Ireland when she was hired as the personal assistant to former first lady Jackie Kennedy. The next 13 years of her life were spent in Jackie's service, during which Kathy not only played a crucial role in raising young Caroline and John Jr. but also had a front-row seat to some of the 20th century's most significant events.

Aedin Moloney makes this story sing
Revisado: 05-05-19
I so enjoyed this story of an Irish girl who makes a life in the USA and gains a unique place in the Kennedy clan. Its’ look at life adjacent to the America’s royal family is intimate but ultimately loyal.
Some audible recordings enhance an already good book. Aedin Moloney’s performance is one of those. She gave the voices of both the wide-eyed immigrant girl and the mature grandmother lively authenticity. If only I could take this audible recording and place it lovingly on the shelf with other treasured books, I would.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Narrator Should Have the Audibook Oscar
Revisado: 05-26-14
The way the story is told through emails and notes, listening to it takes some attention. But the narrator Kathleen Wilhoite more than makes up for it. Her interpretation of this story is a total delight, makes me glad I listened rather than read.

Historia
Set on the Minnesota prairies in 1987, during a drought season that is fostering the demise of the family farms, the story features two intertwining narrators: a father searching for answers after his son commits a heinous murder, and a pastor's wife who has returned to the town for mysterious reasons of her own. A penetrating look at small-town America, reminiscent of Russell Banks' Sweet Hereafter or Affliction, driven by a powerful murder mystery, Little Wolves is a literary triumph.

Historia
Just Kids begins as a love story and ends as an elegy. It serves as a salute to New York City during the late 60s and 70s and to its rich and poor, its hustlers and hellions. A true fable, it is a portrait of two young artists' ascent, a prelude to fame.

What about Patti Smith’s performance did you like?
Patti Smith's performance matches her poetic telling of her very personal story. I never appreciated her more than I do now having just finished Just Kids.

Historia
In the last two years, the United States - its history, assumptions, prejudices, and vocabulary - have all cracked open. A woman won a state presidential primary contest (quite a few of them, actually) for the first time in this country's history. Less than a year later, a vice-presidential candidate concluded her appearance in a national debate and immediately reached for her newborn baby. A few months after that, an African American woman moved into the White House - not as an employee but as the First Lady.

Enjoyed the book, narrator sucks
Revisado: 03-27-11
Is Kirsten Potter a citizen of Earth? How could she mispronounce so many words? Isn't there another field she could go into? I will never knowingly purchase another book narrated by her.
