When I first started listening, I sorely missed Will Patton, but then I recognized the voice—Justine Lupe from the Mr Mercedes series. She was awesome and i loved listening to “Holly” being read by “Holly”. Will was great for the Hodges trilogy, The outsider and If It Bleeds, but this is 100% a Holly story and I soaked it up.
I wanted to give everything 5 stars, but some of the covid stuff felt clunky and forced. I think there is a way to weave it in, however, it kind of just felt off.
The story was great and he has shaken the albatross of not being able to end a book. I’ve read/listened to the last 15 or so books (working my way backwards, kinda) and his characters are great and he is sticking the landings when they end.
I really enjoy everything that Holly is in and look forward to more. I would love to see King ghost write Jerome’s stories as well ad his sister Barbara’s poems. Hmmmm….

And this is the first time listening to it. The audiobook was great and I’ll be damned if SJC wasn’t the best narrator I’ve listened to.
I guess I’m a sucker for cons and heists and this story is always a fun one to read (and listen to). Its a breezy, quick listen with a long con that will keep you guessing. The Bates’ family tree is something that would be fun to explore and the Reena Bros. are truly terrifying psychopaths that keep the stakes high.
