A perfect end to the series!
Revisado: 01-25-24
This was everything I could have asked for to end the series. Once I hit about 70% I started to worry there wasn’t enough book left for everything to wrap up and that maybe this wouldn’t be a trilogy after all, but Kemmerer managed it beautifully. No notes. I simply loved these characters and getting to see them grow and evolve throughout. I laughed, I cried, I giggled and exclaimed. The perfect ending to an excellent series.
Specific to narration - I really enjoyed all three narrators throughout each of the books, I think they did a fantastic job. It did make me laugh a few times that Quint’s voice was massively different from one narrator to the other, but it didn’t bother me much. I still loved the character with my whole heart.

Historia
Two weeks have passed since Iris Winnow returned home bruised and heartbroken from the front, but the war is far from over. Roman is missing, and the city of Oath continues to dwell in a state of disbelief and ignorance. When Iris and Attie are given another chance to report on Dacre’s movements, they both take the opportunity and head westward once more despite the danger, knowing it’s only a matter of time before the conflict reaches a city that’s unprepared and fracturing beneath the chancellor’s reign.

This may be one of my favorite duologies of all time. The writing throughout each book is an absolute masterpiece; it’s raw, and captivating, and achingly-beautiful in a way that both breaks you apart and puts you back together again simultaneously. I went into it nervous that the conclusion wouldn’t hold up against book one, but the fear was unfounded. I absolutely loved every second; no notes - I will be rereading this story for years to come.

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

A Wonderful Story
Revisado: 01-23-24
I went into this book completely blind and admittedly, it took me a little bit to truly get into the story. Once I did, I was thoroughly captivated by the unique world that unfolded; seen through the eyes of a character that is full of wonder and awe for everything around him.
I see why some people struggle with it; the story has incredible depth that could be easy to overlook if you’re not invested. Shout out to Jonah for this recommendation; I think he described it perfectly when he said that this book is not just about how we view the world around us, but also how we perceive our own lives. Sometimes we forget that we have more control over the things we think, feel, and believe than we realize. Hope, despair, hatred, kindness… we get to decide.
A beautiful story that will surely sit with me for many years to come.

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Absolutely phenomenal
Revisado: 01-07-24
We’re mere days into January and there is absolutely no way this book is not going to end up in my top 5 at the end of the year. This didn’t just live up to the hype, it vastly exceeded it. I’ve been vacillating between loud exclamations and quietly staring at my ceiling since finishing it. Just… wow.
Islington spins an incredible story whose twists and turns had me gasping, on the edge of my seat, and at a complete loss for words; I was not bored for a single second of these 620 pages. The protagonist is complex and compelling with razor-sharp intellect, the magic system and world building are unique and intricate, and the political intrigue and commentary were completely engrossing. My second ever 6/5 stars.
The wait for book 2 will be complete and utter torture. I NEED to know what happens. Curse my impatience for picking this up knowing there wasn’t even a projected date for the next one.
