Historia
From its debut in 1962, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was a wild success and a cultural lightning rod. The play transpires over one long, boozy night, laying bare the lies, compromises, and scalding love that have sustained a middle-aged couple through decades of marriage. It scandalized critics but magnetized audiences. Across 644 sold-out Broadway performances, the drama demolished the wall between what could and couldn’t be said on the American stage and marked a definitive end to the I Love Lucy 1950s.

Where Was the Editor?
Revisado: 12-21-24
The narrator, Alexa Morden, has been roundly censured for her mispronunciation of names and even common words, and while I regret piling on the criticism, I hope she reads these reviews and benefits from them. She is, on the whole, a very good voice actor. But when you're narrating a book that is in large part about the playwright Edward Albee, and you can't even pronounce his name correctly (AWL-bee, not AL-bee), it demonstrates a shameful disregard for your craft. If Morden will work with a competent editor, and do her homework, I'll be happy to listen to her narrate a book. Listening to this one made me wince.

Swing and a Miss
Revisado: 09-14-24
You know you’re in trouble when the author’s summary of the movie’s plot contains two glaring errors. First, that Michael killed Sollozzo as an act of vengeance. That’s absurd. Since killing Sollozzo also meant murdering a police captain, revenge would have been a foolish motive. Michael killed Sollozzo to protect his father from being murdered. As Michael put it: “I don’t care what Sollozzo says about a deal, he’s gonna kill Pop. That’s it. That’s a key for him. Gotta get Sollozzo.” Second, that Sonny was shot to death by the Tattaglia family. The movie could not be clearer that it was Barzini who had Sonny killed. Don Corleone: “Tattaglia’s a pimp. He never could’ve out-fought Santino. But I didn’t know until this day that it was Barzini all along.” Michael, to Carlo Rizzi: “Now, who approached you first? Barzini or Tattaglia?” Carlo Rizzi: “It was Barzini.” These are not insignificant errors.

¡De primera clase!
Revisado: 03-29-24
Sterling Bennett ha escrito una novela histórica fascinante y, en ocasiones, poética. Y la narración de Marcela Brondo es la mejor que he escuchado en cualquier audiolibro en español latinoamericano.

Historia
Arianna Warsaw-Fan Rauch’s life-long fascination with classical music has taken her through Juilliard and into the shiny world of symphony halls and international concert tours. She’s loved classical music her whole life. But she’s also hated classical music her whole life. After all, if you can like Beyoncé without liking Bieber, you can certainly like Brahms without liking Bach—especially since they were born 148 years apart and the thing we call “classical music” is really just centuries of compositions shoved into one hodge-podge of a genre.

Vastly overrated
Revisado: 11-28-22
I liked it in spots, but on the whole found this audiobook wanting. Not much original or new, and the author’s voice takes on a singsong quality that I found unpleasant.
