Historia
In the half-century between 1831 and 1881 three massive obelisks left Egypt for new lands. Prior to these journeys, the last large obelisk moved was the Vatican obelisk in 1586—one of the great engineering achievements of the Renaissance. Roman emperors moved more than a dozen, but left no records of how they did it.

Historia
The American Slave Coast tells the horrific story of how the slavery business in the United States made the reproductive labor of "breeding women" essential to the expansion of the nation. The book shows how slaves' children, and their children's children, were human savings accounts that were the basis of money and credit. This was so deeply embedded in the economy of the slave states that it could be decommissioned only by emancipation, achieved through the bloodiest war in the history of the United States.

read the book instead. horrible narrator
Revisado: 03-01-20
Listening to this book will drive you mad if you care about properly pronounced words and effective spoken phrasing. Were it not for the content, I would not have gotten past the first few chapters.

Historia
The First World War laid waste to a continent and brought about the end of innocence — and the end of faith. Unlike a generation of young writers who lost faith in the God of the Bible, however, J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis found that the Great War deepened their spiritual quest. Both men served as soldiers on the Western Front, survived the trenches, and used the experience of that conflict to ignite their Christian imagination.

Terrible narrator for a great book
Revisado: 08-04-16
great book, terrible narrator. the list of mispronounced words is too long to include here. Where was the editor, director, or someone who should have addressed this distracting problem? Narrator: spend less time on trying to add fake emotion to the narrative and more time with a pronunciation guide.

Throughout the Gulf War of 1991, unprecedented restrictions on the media’s access to the battlefield kept the true story of that brief, brutal conflict from being told. Now, after two years of intensive research, Rick Atkinson has written what will surely come to be recognized as the definitive chronicle of the war.

Distracting narrator
Revisado: 04-19-15
What didn’t you like about Jeff Riggenbach’s performance?
His odd pronunciations of common English words and commonly heard international locations distracted his performance to the point that I didn't want to continue listening to it. Where was the editor in this process?
