Historia
Nothing will keep Louisa from her great-aunt's fortune. Except perhaps a phantom who turns out to be a most eligible bachelor. Although Louisa Banner insists she is not the least bit superstitious, she cannot help her misgivings when her family announces she must spend October with her great aunt in a rundown Welsh castle riddled with tales of ghosts. The family hopes Louisa will endear herself to her aunt enough to win a grand inheritance. Louisa’s only wish is to avoid a run-in with any of the phantoms spoken of by the local villagers.

A fun story with a lovely stammering ghost
Revisado: 12-13-20
This book is a fun, romantic, and sweet historical romance with some lovely apparitions and exciting treasure hunting.
Louisa's father passed away a few years prior, and the family finances had deteriorated ever since.
After failing again to capture a husband, and with their finances reaching a breaking point, Louisa's cold mother sent her to live with a distant great-aunt in the far north of England.
The great-aunt, to Louisa's surprise, was actually quite nice. The place was remote and cold, but the people were so warm and different from her judgmental and distant mother.
The place's most irresistible attraction was the ghost that 'lived' at the local graveyard and the treasure he was connected to.
The story was lovely! Ras, the ghost, was the sweetest of heroes. He was shy, stammered a bit, and was utterly captivating.
Together, Louisa and Ras, with the help of two other adorable ghosts, looked for the treasure, falling hopelessly in love in the meantime.
I loved how the story moved me by simply relaying their small gestures of affection. I love how it captures the magic of holding hands for the first time, the energy of an involuntary touch. It was pure and sweet.
Once again, the narration is very clear and well performed. It is my third audiobook by this narrator, and I like her more and more as I listen to her work. One of the characters was Scottish, and I loved her rendition of him.
It is a sweet romance with a bit of adventure, a tad of family drama, and a small fun dose of supernatural.
Lovely! Highly Recommended!

Enchanting! A story with a hint of 'You Got Mail
Revisado: 11-27-20
A sweet, romantic, and heartwarming epistolary historical romance.
I have to say I loved everything about this book.
Phoebe was a practical girl whose hopes for a love match were dashed by an unscrupulous fortune hunter.
In her third London season, she decided to be sensible and choose a husband with her head rather than her heart.
She did not have any unreasonable requirements. She just wanted a man who could treat her as a partner and who would love her for who she was.
Griffin was one of the loveliest heroes I came along in quite some time. He was funny, loving, and so adorable.
He inadvertently introduces Phoebe to a gambler and feels responsible when he finds out she is romantically interested in said gentleman. He then tries to warn her by writing an anonymous note.
The story is everything I expect in a romance: the slow-burn connection, the witty dialogues, the butterflies in the stomach, and the added treat of a lovely note exchange.
I love the duality of practical and sensible Phoebe and spontaneous and adventurous Griffin. They are clearly a match made in heaven.
The side characters were also lovely. I enjoyed learning about Phoebe's school friends and their 'luck bracelet'. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series, especially Marah and Lavinia's stories.
I already owned the e-book, so I read and listened to the audiobook at the same time.
I'm a fan of Jessica Elisa Boyt's work, and she did a great job once again. I love how clear her pronunciation is. Her tone is very calm and lovely, and there is a clear differentiation between the characters.
It is a relatively short audio (3 hours), which I find very convenient. Despite not being long, the story is very well developed.
Letters for Phoebe is enchanting! One of my favorite reads of the year.
Highly recommended for everyone who loves sweet romances and epistolary stories.

A sweet and Romantic Christmas Novella
Revisado: 10-16-20
Penny's Yuletide Wish by Sally Britton is a sweet historical novella about two old friends reconnecting and finding love.
Penny lost her parents in a carriage accident and had to quit her hometown to live with her uncle and aunt.
Seven years later, Penny returned to town to spend Christmas with some friends. She was thrilled to revisit all the places from her childhood, but nothing compared to the happiness of meeting Robert again.
Robert was a neighbor of their estate and a very dear friend. The last time they saw each other, they were still very young, but deep down, Penny knew he meant more than a mere friend to her.
Penny was so charming and Robert so adorably shy and insecure. Everybody knew they were in love with each other: everyone but themselves.
The audiobook is three hours long, perfect for listening to in one sitting.
The narration is excellent. This is my second audiobook by Jessica Elisa Boyd. I love how she differentiates the male and female voices and the variety of voice tones that make it easy to identify the many characters.
Penny's Yuletide Wish is a sweet and romantic historical novella perfect for a few hours of peace in a happy place where love blossoms and triumphs.
Highly recommended for anyone in need of a small dose of Christmas cheer.

Snowy weather and warm feelings
Revisado: 10-15-20
When love comes knocking...
The Captain and Miss Winter is a sweet historical romance novella full of snowy weather and worm feelings that will melt your heart away.
Scarlet Winter lived in a small cottage in the middle of the French forest with her grandmother and her sister Blanche.
Their home was very humble, and they farmed for survival without any servants.
One snowy and stormy night, a man knocked at their door, asking for shelter. He was a Captain in the English army named Casper.
The Napoleonic wars had just ended, and Casper had returned to France to find a box that he left behind during the war.
The women gave him shelter, and he soon realized that, despite their poverty, they were educated English ladies. The mystery of their situation puzzled him.
The audiobook was very well narrated, and I especially liked how Scarlet's French accent was portrayed.
The story has all the elements that I love: an honorable hero, a smart and caring heroine, strong side characters, a slow-burn romance, and a real sense of companionship and family.
The audio (3 hours) length is also perfect because you can listen to it in one sitting or during a short trip.
I've read a few other books by Mrs. Briton, and I love her romantic and sweet stories.
The Captain and Mis Winter is a lovely historical romance novella about hard times and finding the strength to keep going.

Wonderful narration of a great story!
Revisado: 07-03-19
I could listen to Alex Wyndham all day. His voice is seductive, his performance remarkable, and he brings the listening experience to a whole new level. Whenever he partners with the talented Stella Riley, the result is breathtaking.
In Black Madonna, Alex outdid himself as the complex Luciano de Santi (and as the strong Kate Maxwell) literally taking the reader into a journey through 1639 England.
The eminent civil war, the religious tension, and the different backgrounds of the MC's are the ingredients of this amazing story.
This is the first book of the Rounds and Cavaliers Series and there is more of Luciano and Kate to enjoy in the next books (as side characters). I am crossing my fingers hoping they will also be released in audio soon.
What I like the most about Black Madonna and the other books in the series is how historical facts and figures are intertwined in the story.

Beautiful story!
Revisado: 03-14-19
Henry Weston and, a few years later, his brother Philip, were tutored by Mr. John Smallwood. Both brothers got acquainted with his daughter Emma and while Philip became good friends with her, Henry spent all his boy energy devising pranks and fighting with her.
After several years, Mr. Smallwood accepts an offer to tutor Henry and Philip's two younger brothers at their country estate for a year, and Emma goes to help him with his lessons. The reception of The Smallwoods by Mrs. Weston is less than welcoming and things don't get any better from there on.
There are several references to Jane Austen books, starting with the names of the main characters (Emma and Henry), the fact that one student falls for the daughter of his tutor against his mother's wishes (like Lucy Steele in Sense and Sensibility), and the strange things that happen in the clifftop manor (Northanger Abbey).
Henry is a wonderful hero, so honorable and lovely and respectful and most of all forgiving. Emma takes a little more time to like, but she is a good heroine. The side characters are very unique and interesting, depicting very different personalities, morals (or lack thereof), and even a special lovely character suffering the lacking of understanding about his disability.
There is a strong element of faith towards the end, but it is not overly done.
The story is beautiful, my only but is that, in my opinion, the consequences of the wrongdoings should have been direr.

A hero so lovable it hurts!
Revisado: 02-28-19
A shy daydreamer with an amazing musical talent finds out that all his dreams will have to be postponed (perhaps forever) because he is responsible for a failing estate and three illegitimate orphans.
A daring girl (Arabella Brandon), hoping to avoid an unwanted season in London, changes place with her poorer cousin, and ends up accepting a post as a housekeeper/ governess.
Destiny mingled with determination and love are the main ingredients of this masterpiece by Mrs. Riley. Julian, the hero, is so lovable it hurts!
The children are so delightful, the friendships so real that you find yourself in a happy place throughout the book.
In addition to revisiting the indomitable Duke of Rockliffe (and all the other couples in the Rockliffe Series), there is also an extra romance between Elizabeth (Arabella's cousin) and The Earl of Sherbourne. Rafe is a wonderful hero in his own frosty way, and a villain redeemed to boot. Elizabeth is a vicar's daughter that decides to take her destiny in her own hands.
Although I'm not well versed in music, I loved all the musical references (the ones in the final scenes are gold), and I have managed to find beautiful renditions of the pieces mentioned on the internet and they are lovely. The artist that inspired Julian is called Jean Rondeau and he is so very talented.
For those who have already read Mrs. Riley's "Garland of Straw", its lovely to find out that Arabella is a great great granddaughter of Gabriel and Venetia.
As the audience did at the end of Julian's lovely performances, I can only clap my hands and shout "bravo", as I really enjoyed every minute of this book.

Hero is 16 and their marriage is a marriage in name only for him to be able to free his money from the trusts his father have tied him to.
They are both very immature and adorable and their relationship with Sherry good friends Ferdie, Gil and Georgie is very funny and insightful.

Intelligent and Fun

Hugo is a delightful hero! So smart, so calm, so much fun!
Called home by his grandfather who did not acknowledge him before (his father had married his mom, a Mills’s owner daughter without his consent), Hugo finds a very disfuncional family that treats him with a mix of disdain and pity. Instead of putting them in their places by telling them he is in fact a very educated and very wealthy man, he lets them believe the worse of him and with a good deal of good humor and gentle disposition, ends up conquering the love and admiration of them all.
