Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Super engaging plot
Revisado: 01-17-23
Perhaps there is a thread of familiarity to past stories, but this one is so different that I quickly stopped being distracted by that and just enjoyed every chapter as it unfolded. Enjoy it!
Use of well-designed audio indulgences truly enhanced this one. The visual readers will miss out on that! The narrator’s tone and inflection were moving, believable and even evocative. He brilliantly portrayed how we engineers think. I struggled a bit in a scene where female characters were interacting with one another so I perhaps over-harshly deducted a star from an otherwise stellar performance.

Historia
Here is THE book recounting the life and times of one of the most respected men in the world, Warren Buffett. The legendary Omaha investor has never written a memoir, but now he has allowed one writer, Alice Schroeder, unprecedented access to explore directly with him and with those closest to him his work, opinions, struggles, triumphs, follies, and wisdom. The result is the personally revealing and complete biography of the man known everywhere as "The Oracle of Omaha."

A Very detailed account... Very.... Detailed
Revisado: 11-08-18
Certainly a great story about a very interesting figure of our time. This book really does make you feel like you understand the man a little better than is possible through the occasional sound bytes we get on the news. I believe that the length is a bit of a burden - some of the sections are downright dull. They might be interesting to someone who knows the people mentioned in the book. But I would have preferred not hearing every little bit and maybe cutting down to a more typical length.
And no, this book did not put me any closer to my ulterior motive for listening to it: Should I buy BH or not? Knowing that Mr Buffet could step down any time, is the BH value likely to continue its amazing track record afterward? Or, like Apple, is its success so tightly tied to its main champion that the success leaves with him?

Historia
In the spring of 2010 the world watched for weeks as more than 200 million gallons of crude oil billowed from a hole three miles deep in the Gulf of Mexico. Warnings of various and imminent environmental consequences dominated the news. Deepwater drilling - largely ignored or misunderstood to that point - exploded in the American consciousness in the worst way possible. Fire on the Horizon, written by veteran oil rig captain John Konrad and longtime Washington Post journalist Tom Shroder, recounts in vivid detail the life of the rig itself, from its construction to its improbable journey in the year 2000 to its end.

Seems like a solid accounting of the events
Revisado: 09-28-17
I read this because I was curious about the physical causes and human factors which led to the tragedy. I was skeptical that I could find a book that was not trying to beat a political drum, either to condemn fossil fuel consumption or to glorify it. This book delivered. It seems to be a balanced, objective account of what happened. The similarities between operations on a rig and the building of spacecraft (my profession) were striking. The utter complexities involved in engineering achievements on a large scale and the seemingly unwinnable battle over human complacency mark both industries. The key difference has to be that the workers on a rig are personally exposed to considerable daily danger, while spacecraft builders, aside from a few key operations involving highly toxic and flammable propellants, are unlikely to deal with life threatening situations on the job.
"Fire on the Horizon" does a great job of building up a litany of mundane and everyday events, which insidiously conspired basically through chance to lead to the disaster. It does not take much imagination to transport yourself to that rig in the days and hours leading up to the blowout and wonder if there is anything you could have done differently had you been there.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Everybody loves this book and so did I - Sorry
Revisado: 09-28-17
This is a fantastic story. Young men from average backgrounds, underdogs across the board, full of the same human strengths and weaknesses we all share in varying degrees. To say that a good team is more than merely the sum of a collection of great athletes is nothing new. But this book illustrates the concept in a way that sent my mind racing. Yes, we would all love to be on that team.
