Historia
In this book, you'll find one of the most in-depth, simple to understand explanations of lowside and highside crashes that exist—anywhere. Riders die every day in these rider-induced crashes—and it doesn't have to be this way. Mastering the art of riding a motorcycle well is about understanding and overcoming rider fear. It's about having the head knowledge of how your motorcycle works so you can make it go where you want it to go. It's about understanding why riders crash so you can avoid making the same mistakes.

Excellent book independent of riding experience
Revisado: 11-15-23
This is the first of the series by Mixson on motorcycle riding. He is a rocket scientist (a NASA engineer) who took on riding as a more mature person. In addition to his more conventional trips, he's done an Alabama to Alaska trip with his friend and mentor.
He applies his riding experience and understanding of the physics of riding (without getting geeky, don't worry) to provide a good explanation of safe, yet animated riding.
His explanations are complete and detailed, and may provide a new approach to your riding. Listen to it two or three times!
Highly recommended!

Crippled by pretentiousness
Revisado: 03-08-20
The wording and phrasing are so pretentious that it is unlistenable. Why speak directly in simple language when you can construct convoluted sentences? Couldn’t take more than a ½ hour. I tried.

Historia
A mother and her daughters drive for days without sleep until they crash their car in rural Oklahoma. The mother, Amaranth, is desperate to get away from someone she's convinced will follow them wherever they go - her husband. The girls, Amity and Sorrow, can't imagine what the world holds outside their father's polygamous compound. Rescue comes in the unlikely form of Bradley, a farmer grieving the loss of his wife. At first unwelcoming to these strange, prayerful women, Bradley's abiding tolerance gets the best of him, and they become a new kind of family.

Amazing First Novel
Revisado: 04-28-13
If you could sum up Amity & Sorrow in three words, what would they be?
God, Sex, Farming
What was one of the most memorable moments of Amity & Sorrow?
Ms. Riley has clearly done extensive research about cults. Through her story, guided by research, we learn about the life within a polygamous cult.
I developed a sympathy and understanding of the characters, which translated to a better understanding of a polygamous cult from a members' perspective. I developed a broader understanding of "family".
Is the book an endorsement of polygamous cults? Not by any means. She does allow the reader to make their own decision and perhaps broaden their understanding of other social structures.
Which character – as performed by Erin Bennett – was your favorite?
Amity. We don't know her well, but she is intriguing.
If you could take any character from Amity & Sorrow out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Amaranth. I understand why she did what she did, but it would be interesting to give her alternative views.
Any additional comments?
A dark but enlightening book. A very worthwhile listen. Can't wait for her next work!
