I loved this book the first and second time I read it, but I listened to it the third time. King’s characters, as usual, combined with the plot and “other” worldliness, also as usual, are all compelling. Themes covered are very timely even though the book is so old. Strong women who fight for the right of sovereignty over their own bodies, as a theme, has a timeless element to it as does the theme of crackpot men fighting against this right. And then comes the supernatural into the mix. I’d give all aspects of this review five stars except for one thing: Eli Wallach did a good enough narration, but the sound effects between chapters are borderline unbearable.

I’m about to buy the physical book after listening to the audio. I need to leaf through it! Listening to this was a joy reminding me that Barbra Streisand has been here for me all my life. Her body of work has always mesmerized me and moments of her films and songs have always been in my head because of their power. What a woman, what a person, what a gift she is! This book reflects all of that and more. You’ll learn about living with fame, people who you enjoy in the entertainment world, people who are supportive, and how those who aren’t are in everybody’s lives regardless of where they are in the world. Art, music, theater, films, teamwork, the fight for equal rights, and most of all, truth—these are all covered in this 992-page bill that goes by too fast!

Fall of Giants is, like other Ken Follett books, historical fiction at its best. It completely immersed me in the events leading up to, including, and following up World War I, plus, the beginnings of its aftermath. I’m not capable of reading such long books and staying awake, but listening to John Lee it effortlessly happen. Thanks to Ken Follett’s writing and John Lee’s exceptionally authentic accents, I felt like I was both watching and listening to the movie version.

I’m about to read the sequel to this novel because THE GOLEM AND THE JINNI is the first book I’ve read in a long time that transported me into another head space of imagination. I want to add that listening to the Audible version while reading this book is an immersion that brought me back to my days of Stephen King’s DARK TOWER series—George Guidall is the same voice actor! I’ll listen to him anytime.

This adventure novel is entertaining and wishing all the way through. I’ll never forget Uncle Herman or Rags or any of the people Donny met “on the road.”

If you’re looking for a true story based on journals, an exceptionally detailed memory, and collective interviews, this is the one.

Whether you lived through the turmoil of the late sixties/early seventies or not, you will be entertained, amazed, infuriated, and probably cry.

Having read Garber’s memoir of an architect ‘s daughter, IMPLOSION, I knew this sequel was coming and I looked forward to learning much more about this “oceanic school.”

I totally expected the excellent quality of writing that Elizabeth Garber provides. I didn’t expect—and certainly should have—the immensity of how much this audiobook would feel to me as if I’d lived on the ship with those people myself. The point-of-view character—and I say that about a memoir because it reads like a novel—is a timid book-loving girl.

She is relatable, lovely, and lovable, as she painstakingly discovers her voice and value. I could say more but don’t want to spoil…

The voice narrator was perfect, too.

Oh, and you’ll come away from this book feeling as if you just experienced an unforgettable nautical adventure yourself!

I’m still smiling after completing this book. Ray Porter did a perfect narration and Andy Weir created two lovable unforgettable characters. The story doesn’t quit. You won’t be able to put it down!

Amor Towles amazed me with <A Gentleman in Moscow>, so this story appealed to me. I used Audible and enjoyed David Harbour’s narration. It sounded like a Stephen King story in its creepy cautionary tale dystopia. Loved it.
