Enjoyable story set in medieval England. Rhys de Piaget is a fine knight of the realm who rescues a girl from the piggery. That girl is one Gwennolyn of Seagrave. What follows is a tale of intrigue, spies, and how two star crossed lovers remain true through many obstacles. Humorous and entertaining.

I’ve long been a fan of Tolkien and have read and re-read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series several times.

The tales never grow old. They have become very old friends that I routinely revisit every few years.

This has been the first Audiobook that I’ve listened to and Serkis is remarkable. I particularly enjoyed his voicing the many songs that are presented in the novel.

Truly excellent!

Save yourself from boredom by skipping most of the chapters in Part 1 due to the repetitive nature of the chapters. One can get by reading the first couple of chapters and last couple of chapters of Part 1.

Part 2, while better, still didn’t live up to the expectations of who Acheron is and how he is portrayed in the earlier Dark Hunter books.

I love Ash as an antihero type of character, however this book portrays him in a totally different way and not at all congruent with his persona of earlier books in the series.

I’ve read (and listened) to this book twice and can only give it a Meh!😑

…what could be more intriguing? This should’ve been a full length novel!

Enjoyable and entertaining to say the least. The narration was perfect for the characters!

Velkan is a true hero in every sense of the word. Retta is a bit dramatic and somewhat insipid in the beginning but that all changes when she journeys back to Transylvania to stop her husband from opening a Dracula theme park.

While not my favourite narration of the classic Christmas ghost story, it’s in the top 3. Grant has a pleasant voice and gives an engaging performance. The music at the beginning and ending is the most annoying thing about it.

Darling Cruel and Dancer Hauk are two of my favourite characters in this series. When I read Born of Silence the first time, it was difficult to get through due to the brutality and abuse Darling has suffered from the time his father is assassinated.

To say some would struggled with PTSD and flashbacks of times having dealt with similar abuse and victimisation would make it even more difficult to finish is an understatement. There are many, like myself, who know firsthand how hard it is to overcome such events and come back from the edge.

Having read it once and listened to the audiobook, then reading it again for the third time, I can now see the beauty, hope, forgiveness and redemption the author gave to both hero and heroine by providing juxtaposed points of view.

This truly is a wonderful read and my favourite series by Kenyon. Born of Legend is my favourite book in the series, to date.

Holter Graham isn’t the best narrator simply because he doesn’t really distinguish between each character’s voice. None of the Andarions sound as they are described in the book, and neither Darling nor his brothers have refined, aristocratic voices. That being said, Graham does a great job giving voice to Maris and Ture.

Third in The League series doesn’t disappoint as it continues with the story of Caillen Dagan, young brother to Shahara Dagan in Born of Fire.

Both hero and heroine are likeable with supporting characters in Darling Cruel, Fain Hauk and his younger brother Dancer. You’ll meet Maris Sulle, who has greater roles in subsequent books.

Syn Wade and the Dagan sisters make a reprise appearance.

Desideria is a strong female character who discovers Chayden Aniwaya is her brother.

The narrator is easy to listen to although there is little distinction between character voices. Andarions have thickly accented voices and the narrator neglects to give Hauk and Fain that distinction. He also mispronounces Nykyrian’s surname, which I is a pet peeve of mine.

Born of Fire, like Born of Defiance (Talyn Batur), is a companion book to Born of Night (Nykyrian) with events taking place within the same time frame. Truthfully, this book should be read AFTER Defiance and Night as the 3rd in the series.

The timelines are a tad off, between Born of Night & Born of Fire, with regards to the end of Born of Night when Syn & Shahara enter the hospital after Nykyrian is critically injured, but other than that, the storyline remains consistent.

I liked Shahara who is the strong heroine. Syn was great too, snarky and sarcastic. The narrator did a good job with most of the character voices, Nykyrian and Vik being the two exceptions. Digger Wade was voiced perfectly.

After Born of Night, Nykyrian should always have a Slavic accent. As he’s an alien hybrid from Andaria, he should never be voiced as an American. Geez! You’d think narrators would try for a bit of continuity in book series.

Great plot with all of the prerequisite twists that make for a good read (or listen) in spite of the rather explicit intimate scenes and crude language. Less would be more , in my opinion.

Prequel to Born Of Night

This book is actually a companion story that takes place alongside Born Of Night, The League Book 1.

The hero, Talyn Batur is only 20 years old and the heroine approximately the same age as a 2nd year college student.

The events in this book take place 9 years before Fain Hauk’s book, Born of Betrayal, so the already established timelines don’t really work, with respect to the characters and their ages. In this book Fain would be the same age (mid 30s) as Galene, as they ‘graduated’ from the same class and we know from other novels that he is a couple of years older than his War Hauk brother, Dancer, who is supposedly 30 in his book Born of Fury. So there’s that discrepancy in the time line.

Honestly, I thought the plot a tad tiresome, what with all of the hospital scenes, etc. I didn’t really like Felicia and thought it odd that so many Andarion characters had HUMAN names when they are ALIENS from an intergalactic planet.

Not very original to slap human names on an alien species. Just saying.

That being said, the glimpse into Andarion culture, customs, and hierarchy, along with the caste system, was my favorite part of the book. However, the dialogue revolved too much on why they couldn’t ever marry, be together, or have children,..blah, blah, blah.

Talyn never meets his father in this book. Weird. It’s like the entire book, you’re waiting for that to happen, from the initial dogfights with the Tavali to the end when Talyn goes ‘undercover’ to enter the Tavali space station with Ryn Cruel.

And wth, with ‘winged’ Andarions? Interesting, but a lot over the top. Wings just pop out of nowhere, through clothes, battle suits, and just as quickly disappear?

Pffffft!

Not the best in this series; but not the worst.
4 stars for the history of the Andarion Clans and their culture.

The League is one of my favourite book series, fourth only to Star Wars, The Lord Of The Rings, & Game of Thrones.

The narrator does a great job with Nykyrian and Kiara but the other character voices and dialects are abysmally ludicrous.

Darling, an Aristo heir to the Caronese Empire, is described in the book as having a ‘refined’ aristocratic voice, yet the narrator gives him a common London cockney accent. Dancer Hauk is Andarion like Nykyrian but the voice used for him sounds like a West Virginia hillbilly.

It’s difficult to reconcile the ridiculous accents that don’t match the written descriptions of the characters.

Kiara is not a favourite heroine. She’s whiny, vapid, and insecure. She immediately changes her mind about the relationship with Nykyrian when she discovers he’s a Prince of both the Andarion & Triosan Empires, which makes her even more unlikable. Before, she said she wished he had died; after, she was determined to remain his wife.

Not to sound prim, but this book should come with an NC17 Mature rating. I’d have enjoyed this book more if the intimate details had been a little less graphic and explicit and had more sci-fi action and less sappy romance dialogue.
